Most definitely. If Gerrie Coetzee could knock Dokes out, most definitely Holmes could in 1983. Dokes was a streaking shooting star in his best prime and was noted for his first round stoppage of the slow starting Mike Weaver. Weaver proved that the win was a fluke and the the early stoppage by the referee was way premature--which was a hangover of the 1982 fatal fight between Boom Boom Mancini and Deu Koo Kim---when he held Dokes to a draw in their rematch. Incidentally, Holmes easily defeated Weaver and Coetzee in earlier fights.
Dokes would trouble Holmes in the earlier rounds with his fast, strong start where he came in throwing combinations while avoiding and blocking punches. But as soon as Holmes found out that Dokes could offer no more than that, Larry would begin working behind his jabs and closing in for the kill.
Holmes by KO between 8 and 9.
Sure. Dokes ain't in Larry's class.
Easily, his jab, timing and speed would just beat Dokes to the punch. He'd make him land flat on his face first like Razor Ruddock did to him.
Yes, Larry's jab would have just been too much for Dokes.
If he had been in the ring with him that night instead of Tim Witherspoon in 1983?
