OneDrop,
Ali did not have titles in different weight classes yet he's considered an ATG.
If Rigo retires now he won't be considered an ATG because he does not have longevity yet. He will be remembered as a guy who didn't even have 15 pro fights, had a great amateur record and beat Donaire [who will likely be considered a hype job at this moment].
If Rigo defeats Kiko Martinez for the IBF & undefeated Leo Santa Cruz for the WBC he will be the undisputed champion in the division and i believe Rigo can do it. If he does this [2 fights] i believe he can retire an ATG with only 15 pro fights but this will never happen. Those champions would likely dodge Rigo so he will need to become a top contender for those organizations to force the fights.
Fat chance. At most, he has just two or three more years left in his best prime at the pros. Assuming he fights between two and three bouts a year starting 2014, he would have only about 20 to 21 fights in his pro career. The quality of his future opposition would be very crucial. I think he will unify all the titles at 122 lbs. next year in a field that would include Leo Santa Cruz, Carl Frampton, Scott Quigg and Kiko Martinez. I think he will move up to 126 lbs. by 2015 and vie for the title/s there against the likes of Salido, Vetyeka, Abner Mares and Jhonny Gonzales. Now that's quite a formidable field and if he sweeps all his bouts between 2014-2016 and retires unbeaten, I think he has a shot, though a slim one.
Why, Lazslo Papp is currently being considered as an ATG despite having a brief career at the pros.
w/ just 13 fights? aint it a bit too early...?
