Why is the jab so importnent in boxing?

its not that effective?

its very fast faster then most boxing punches and often lands well

if it is used properly the jab can be the most effective punch. it can be used as a range finder. it can be used to set up other punches as the opponent will first be focusing on the jab that is being thrown first and will be less aware of the next punch. it is the nearer to the opponent than other punches. watch wladimir klitschko he executes the jab superbly even if he is boring as **** he's still effective and no one has come close to beating him in years

Advantages of a jab;

1. It's a safe punch, when thrown, the one throwing it is usually out of danger.

2. It's worth points.

3. If it lands around the eyes, it can temporarily leave the opponent blind [they blink] thus it can help set up another punch.

The jab is the most important punch in boxing.

It is used as a faint to get a bigger punch in with the reverse hand.

It is also the easiest punch to execute and is the closest to the opponent, this can be used to keep them away from you and buy you time. It can be used without that much effort and can wear down opponents

You wouldn't want to come down with flu, just before a fight.
