In essence the torch can only be passed from someone who actually has it sorta speak and Donaire never had to begin with. That's why I also laughed at this notion that Rigondeaux hadn't "done enough" to deserve a fight with Donaire.
Truth of the matter is Nonito Donaire is a very good fighter and a very popular fighter, but he's no Manny Pacqauio, he's not selling out areas and fans aren't traveling across the world to see him fight.
He may have not KO'd Donaire but he did dominate him for 11 rounds. Don't forget it was Donaire who was the bigger fighter and the top 3 P4P fighter going up against the smaller opponent with only 11 pro fights on his resume, yet Rigo made Donaire look like some bum off the street. That's how much he outclassed him in that fight.
You can complain about boring style all you want but fact of the matter is that Rigo was the one who threw & landed more shots than Nonito. Also notice that in round one Nonito was shoving Rigo around and cutting off the ring, that all stopped after Rigo caught him with a few shots and Nonito felt his power, from that moment on Nonito was clearly hesitant to get involved in exchanges and was no longer trying to bully Rigo like he tried in the first round. All bets were off once he got popped a few times. Blame Rigo all you want but the CompuBox numbers show that Rigo was the more active fighter, their faces show that Nonito was the one feeling the effects of the punches more, and defensively it was no comparison, Rigo was masterful while Donaire was relatively easy to hit. Cry about Rigo all you want but it was Donaire who was actually booed because he was so reluctant to exchange with the smaller fighter.
In boxing any one can get caught and K.O'd just like what happened to Pacquiao, but the way that Rig out boxed and out classed Donaire was to me near boxing perfection. Marquez K.O'd. Pacquiao but was down and hurt earlier that round and down on all the score cards, Pac just walked into what was the perfect shot while going in for the kill himself, not to take any thing away from Marquez but Guillermo Rigondeaux boxed like a master and last saturday he was the master inside the boxing ring!
another upset filly lol
jmm KTFO pac yet US boxing didnt saw it that great as jmm was gasping for air before he got lucky to shoot that righthand nuke when pac openned...
rigo aint that spectacular, he is in fact boring and was booed
do you think rigo now becomes a PPV draw after beating donaire in a dance showdown?
