Look at most sons of great fighters. I wouldn't go as far as to say that he's a disgrace. Sadly, his dad's strictness and the cultural pressure placed upon him, to follow in his dad's footsteps might contribute to his inability to live up to expectations.
.
Joe Frazier was great. His son Marvis didn't come close. Floyd Mayweather far surpassed his father. However, here is the difference.
.
Chavez, Frazier and other famous fighters achieved a great deal in the sport long before their sons were either born or old enough to appreciate or even know what their famous dads were doing.
.
By contrast, Floyd Jr. had his father's teachings from the beginning. But that was derailed by Floyd Sr's incarceration while Floyd was still young.
.
Here you have an average fighter who produced a son who became a great fighter. And you have two great fighters who produced average fighters in their sons.
.
There are other examples. However, like Marvis before him, Chavez' father was able to pave the way for him. He really didn't have any reason to fight because his father fought so hard before him. He grew up privileged. The same holds true for the Fraziers. Joe fought as if his life depended on it. Marvis was a church boy who probably never belonged in the ring.
Chavez Jr. is not a disgrace but he expect everything to be handed to him. His sense of motivation is not their because he live in the shadow of his father.
He's not only a cheat but also a drug user. Talk of improvement of family stock!
Marvin Hagler: "It's hard to get up and train if you're sleeping in silk sheets".
i have been saying this for years
fans can't criticize fighters because when it comes to actually being the one getting hit and training almost every day and having to prepare yourself mentally while taking care of your loved ones
that's hard and for a fan to say a fighter is a disgrace? lol
He has a great knowledgeable father (a legend), the chin, and skills. Just lacks heart, dedication, and more. Also, has a lot of problems such as drugs. It is a shame he is letting his potential go to waste.
