If your logic was applied to a street fight, it would be valid. Meldrick Taylor was definitely taking more punishment punch for punch.
But these are scoring rounds. There are many matches where the person who got knocked down actually won the fight (IE Sergio versus Chavez Jr).
Points wise, it was agreed upon by all the JUDGES that Chavez was losing, by a considerable margin.
When Meldrick Taylor fought Julio Caesar Chavez sr, on March 17,1990 in front of an HBO televised audience, it was a title unification bout of the 140 pound titles. Chavez was WBC Champion and Taylor was IBF Champion. Taylor was way ahead on all three judges scorecards going into the 12th round but Taylor's face looked like it had been in an auto accident. Chavez scored a spectacular knockdown of Taylor which Taylor was counted out by referee Richard Steele, and all Haites happened. Taylor suffered a fracture of the eye socket. Taylor was never the same again, Chavez fought on.
From watching the fight Taylor was winning until he was stopped just before end of the fight..
There are many fights where the winner got the Wheaties knocked out of him but still won.
Probably because fights are judged on who's effectively winning the round and not who's face is busted up.
The reason why they do is because Chaves was loosing on all the score cards good reason to claim this.
You score fights round by round, not by who has more blood on their face.
They claim that Julio cesar chavez sr was loosing to Meldrick taylor, but who was the one that looked fu**ed up? Chaves looked like he just came out from a sparring session and Meldrick looked like he just got back from Iraq or some **** like that.
