There is a history of great fighters either losing or not winning convincingly against a boxer who lost several fights to people the great fighter beat easily.
Sometimes, some people give a boxer a lot of problems and there is no real explanation for that.
Even the greatest fighters have their off days, and anything can happen with boxing, all it takes is one good punch to make a great fighter look like a chump.
Muhammad Ali v. Ken Norton. Norton was a athletic freak of nature, had one of the hardest punches in boxing history.
Shane Mosley v Vernon Forest. Forest and Mosley really didn't like each other, or so I heard, and two guys hating each other adds incentive to fight that much harder.
And Styles make Fights, of course.
First thing, Great question Ghaz.
\why did some ATG fighters had to struggle against a certain fighter?
- Just like Superman had Lex, Batman had Joker. Muhammad had Norton, Roy Jones had Tarver, Pacman had M - - - - - -, although of lesser stature, these guys certainly know how to deal with these ATGs that we're talking of. Aside from the adage" styles making fights", its but part of greatness - lose a certain fight to a lesser opponent
Styles do have something to do with a fight but it's not everything height has a lot to do with how one fighter does against another. If it were only styles Floyd Maywather would not be undefeated. Every thing has a lot to do with how a fight is going to come out.
Styles are different and one type of style can give you fits. Ali beats Foreman, Foreman beats Norton easy, but Ali had problems with Norton in all 3 fights. Many felt he lost to Norton in their Yankee Stadium fight in 1976.
Have you ever heard of the term ,
Styles make fights.
look it up .
some All Time Great fighters have struggled against a certain fighter who though not a legend himself has held his own against the legendary fighter.
for e.g Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera lost twice in his prime to an unknown Junior Joness..who has not done anything great before or after the fights.
another e.g is Muhammad Ali..he lost to Kenny Norton(a good fighter but no Atg)..Ali got redemption by beating Norton twice..though critics claim Norton won all 3 fights.
another e.g is Shane Mosley who was undefeated and the leading p4p fighter yet lost twice to an unknown Vernon forrest who like junior jones didnt beat anyone of note after Mosely.
