If you watch Pacquiao's fights, he gets hit a lot. Now sure he completely destroys most of his opponents but in order to do that he has to get hit a lot. However, it's because of this that he looks a lot more dominant. Yet you hear all their common opponents say that Mayweather is better and that's for a reason. Even though they don't get beat down by Mayweather, they can't hit him. They spend so much energy trying to hit him but can't land any thing effective. Meanwhile they are getting hit over and over again with his counters.
No matter what style his opponent has, he makes every adjustment necessary to win. He takes away his opponent's best weapon in the case of Pacquiao, that's his speed. Timing counters speed effectively. Mayweather is the best counter puncher, the most accurate puncher, and has the highest boxing IQ. He is also just as fast as Pacquiao even though he doesn't throw as many punches. Pacquiao is so easy to hit, time, and avoid if you know how to box. Look at his fight with Mosley, all he had to do was move around and made Pacquiao miss most of his punches. If that's all it takes to make Pacquiao miss, how would he beat Mayweather? Because Mayweather would do that and pot shot him all night. He would make Pacquiao think before coming in because he wouldn't be able to go to war with him like he did Marquez. Marquez is a great counter puncher but he is easy to hit. Mayweather is not.
It's not just the defense, what is more important is the counter punching. Juan Manuel Marquez proved in 4 fights that Manny has trouble with an excellent counter puncher. Floyd Mayweather is faster and a better counter puncher. He would have caught Manny, who can be very hittable (but usually gets by with his very good chin), out of position all night and made him pay for every mistake. At 147, where this fight would have happened...Floyd would have been a master matador. Manny would have been frustrated with all his missing and would have tried to do something to land...maybe step out of position or stayed in one place too long trying to add on to a flurry. Floyd would have been safe and smart and put away round after round.
Even if Manny was at his peak, and juicing with the best PEDs medical science could provide, I still think Mayweather could have handled him. I am a huge boxing fan, and I respect both Pacquiao and Mayweather, but as they say "styles make fights" and Floyd in my opinion just has the style that would give Manny loads of trouble. I think Mayweather would handle Pacquiao's aggression with movement and counter punching, and quite possibly could have KOed Manny. Pacquiao would have chased Mayweather for 12 rounds eating counter punches and light quick jabs, and most likely have lost a lopsided decision, but if he got careless, Floyd could have turned on a punch and did what Marquez ultimately did, catch Manny coming in and KOed him.

regarding predictions...well, floyd got hit in the past, only a nuthugger will say floyd cannot be hit...
mosley, judah, castillo, cotto are the great examples....some managed to pressure floyd into the ropes, some was able to match his speed and wobbled him.
the pac that beat cotto can put so much pressure to floyd, that same pac got hard hitting punches that can bleed floyd so nasty, relentless volume punching power, tremendous handspeed, and great stamina to drop floyd even to the last round...not to mention a great chin that took jmm 8 years of sheer luck to penetrate w/c i supposed can absorb a much softer counters from floyd. you do the math. if you believe floyd's defense is invulnerable and inpenetrable, you're a nuthugger, every fortification has a weakness.
why do you think floyd needs to fight canelo at a catchweight?
what the purpose of the catchweight? aint it to drain a much larger opponent, why? aint it to lower his stamina? so that his power wont be consistent and would weaken in the later rounds...do the math, if floyd's defense can stand against canelo's power upto the last round, then why beat the kid w/o controversy, the catchweight?
Mayweather is simply too skilled for Pacquiao. Pacquiao looks great against guys who are willing to trade, but he struggled against a counter puncher in Marquez in every one of their fights. Mayweather is bigger than Marquez, has a longer reach, and is stylistically too difficult for Pac.
floyd's defense was proven way too much for anybody but pacquiao
pacquiao's power was already tested and concluded... you need to alot time for someone like jmm, give him 8 years to figure out how to beat pac.
on whether floyd would beat pac...jmm and floyd are two different fighters... jmm beat pac cuz jmm is willing to engage pac toe to toe, floyd will not.
but nobody would really know, whether floyd's style is too much for pac or pac's power is too much for floyd.... cuz it was really clear now, floyd ducked pac for years, made a stand never to do business w/ arum then escaped HBO and transfer to showtime w/c erased all hopes of the fight from happening.
my guess, floyd can beat pac by UD... it's just that he is afraid to get hurt, in fact he's too paranoid he even thinks he'll end up like ali w/ parkinsons disease.... that's why he's afraid to fight even an inexperienced canelo...so he asked that canelo should drain himself 1st just to make sure canelo's punches would grow weak on the mid rounds, he actually believes his defense will collapse if canelo's hard punching will be consistent till the last bell...

Simple as this. There's no way you can beat someone who uses every possible excuses not to fight.
So everyone in my family hates mayweather and always say Pacman could whoop his ***. But I'm always saying Mayweather has a great defense and Pacman does not. He's just basically an aggressive brawler with great shots. And he gets hit too much. So I'm saying Mayweather would win but yes he would get hit from Pacquiaos aggressive style but his defense is too much. What else can anyone say on why Pacman couldn't have beat money???
