Muhammad Ali.
Joe Frazier.
Rocky Marciano.
Joe Louis.
Henry Armstrong.
Kudos to Oriental QnA; he is spot on.
In his prime, Larry Holmes would beat any - repeat ANY - heavyweight, and had he fought Tyson 3 or 4 years earlier than he did, he would have destroyed him in the same manner Buster Douglas did later. People don’t know, when Holmes fought Tyson in 1988, it was his fifty-second fight in a professional career that started in 1973! The guy’s jab was absolutely second to none!
For me, however, if we’re talking pound for pound, on a good night at 154 I don’t see ANYBODY standing in front of Thomas Hearns, including Ray Robinson. As for Marciano, the fact of the matter is that, during the period in our country when Marciano was active, black fighters were still having a tough time getting onto big cards; just the way it was. An observation, not a judgment.
At 147, I don’t see anybody - on a good night - standing in front of Ray Leonard either; his KO ratio is one of the highest of the 20th Century.
Then there is Marvelous….Hagler made twelve undisputed title defenses and holds the highest KO% of all middleweight champions at 78%. He held the “Undisputed Middleweight Champion” title for six years - seven months; second longest of the 20th century, behind only Tony Zale .
My 5th pick will surprise, but I’d take Jolt’n Jeff Chandler; the first American to gain the Bantamweight championship - in 1980 - in thirty+ years.
1. Sugar Ray Robinson
2. Archie Moore
3. Marvin Hagler
4. Willie Pep
5.Rocky Marciano
How can you pick Robinson when you haven't seen his fights?
As with others who truly don't understand boxing, the classic Marciano because he was unbeaten argument as well, no doubt.
1. Ray Robinson
2. Joe Louis
3. Mike Tyson
4. Ali
5. Willie Pep
1. Rocky Balboa
2. Apollo Creed
3. Ivan Drago
4. Clubber Lang
5. Tommy Gunn
Although Creed was beaten by Drago (to put it mildly) Creed still has the better resume and longevity. Balboa is a legend and was past his prime when he lost to Antonio Tarver (i forget his other name).
Mohamed Ali, Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones Jr, Larry Holmes, and Floyd Mayweather. Name one that could beat those dudes in their prime time?
mine would probably be, in no order:
Ali, Tyson, Marciano, Sugar ray robinson, RJJ.. I havent actually seen much of robinson though but for marciano and ali to both say robinson was the king he musta been something special
