I say that the greatest fighter to never win a title at all including heavyweight was undoubtedbly Sam Langford. Jack Johnson was of course the first black heavyweight Champ and he never gave Sam a shot and neither did Jeffries when he was the Champ either. As a matter of fact Langford who had 167 wins and over 100 knockouts in his career never received a title shot in any of the many weight classes that he fought in. I loved Jerry Quarry who certainly came up during a great era of heavyweights and a tremendous fighter in his own right, but he was no Sam Langford.
Had to be 'the Boston terror/tar baby' Sam Langford quite possibly the most avoided heavyweight ever and the greatest that actually never won a title-
Sam Langford.
Either Quarry or Tua
