Edwin Valero easy. Having a good 'Chin' isn't something you can train so the fact Mathysee KO's better fighters doesn't matter. Overall Mathysse is a better puncher (speed and accuracy) but Valero hits harder.
Impossible to say. Both are KO punchers with the power to put you to sleep with one shot, and both get/got in the ring to do just that. I was always a big fan of both and valero had some very underrated boxing skills that were more obvious when he was sparring. On fight night he just walked through you and threw huge bombs.
I think matthysse is a bit more refined and sharp as a boxer, throws his shots a little cleaner, although he still loads up on the hook so much that he throws himself over at times, both fighters would be a bit vulnerable to a good counterpuncher.
i remember shortly after Valero died there was an article on matthysse as he was a young up and comer and the headline was "valero lives". The guys are very similar, from closely allied countries, both had the confident stroll to the ring and they both tried to decapitate you once the fight started. I'd say Edwin was a bit more of a wild animal and matthysse is a little more precise in his punching, but powers pretty much the same.
I think Valero. People may say his opponents were out - matched, but he 'Was' WBC lightweight champion of the world, how won all of his 27 fights by KO or TKO, and, had he not killed himself, he would more than likely have continued with his 100% KO record 'Breaking' record into the light welterweight division. His shot would have just came out of nowhere. So I'm going with Valero.
Just based on level of competition and not record, I'd say Mathysse.
Good question. I'd have to say Valero. It's such a shame he did what he did and left us like that. I bet he would've killed Broner.
Lucas Mathysse or the late Edwin Valero
