Joe Louis was the best heavyweight and by no coincidence Jack Blackburn trained both Louis and the greatest 'pound for pound' fighter of all time 'Sugar' Ray Robinson, favorite fights of 'the brown Bomber'-http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=joe+...
I read a book that had a poll of "old timers" about this subject. Their consensus was that of the heavyweight champions of circa 1875-1975, 1. James "Boilermaker" Jeffries was best, 2. Jack "Galveston Giant" Johnson was second and 10. Cassius "Louisville Lip" Clay was tenth. Other top ten men were Jack "Manassa Mauler" Dempsey, Rocky "Brockton Blockbuster" Marciano, "Gentleman Jim" Corbett, John L. "Boston Strong Boy" Sullivan, "Ruby Bob" Fitzsimmons, Joe "Brown Bomber" Lewis and Gene "Fighting Marine" Tunney. I have some videos that show many classic bouts with all of these men and more.
I heard there was a computer simulation bout between Rocky Marciano and Cassius Clay. Rocco won it in a similar manner to his victory over Ezzard Charles.
Rocky Marciano best ever heavy weight boxer. Rocky Marciano is my favourite weight boxer.
Ali. He's the only heavyweight who had the speed of a welterweight, both of hand and foot. He had the fastest jab and threw lightning-quick combinations coming from all conceivable angles. Ali had unmatched reflexes which enabled him to elude punches that even above-average fighters wouldn't see coming. So even if he hung his hands low on his sides, he simply moved his head back or side-to-side to avoid punches. He also had one of the best chins in the sport as he was floored only 4 times in 61 fights but never knocked out. Ali was as tough as any fighter could get as he fought the strongest and most powerful heavyweights ever, never ducking anyone.
Favorite fight: vs. George Foreman. He slayed the beast by spontaneously devising a somewhat crazy strategy - the rope-a-dope - which the world hailed as a genius.
Lennox Lewis.
The best of all time is Muhammad Ali
The best right now is Wladimir Klitschko
It was Rocky Marciano isn't it.
But Ali has to come close innit.
Lennox Lewis... He was bigger than a Dinosaur and he could hit. He had that long jab that just kept people at bay. He just picked people apart.
