Joe frazier was awesome considering he came forward in straight lines
Harry Greb was fast and yes he was furious as he swarmed his opponents and throwing punches from every possible angle. And he was also gifted at getting out of the way of punches as he never would stay in one spot in the ring for very long. Harry Greb fought a record 45 times in 1919 alone winning all of them and against many future Hall of Famers and World Champions. Greb won 262 fights because of his unique blend of sheer toughness, ferocity, great endurance, speed, great ring movement, and ability to figure out his opponents style make him 'The Fearless Harry Greb" one of the three greatest fighters in history as my choice as the most elusive swarmer.
2nd Choice: Aaron Pryor
3rd Choice: Roberto Duran
I don't know if swarmers are very elusive fighters but the best swarmer p4p was Harry Greb unquestionably.
The best heavyweight swarmer was, as Joe Frazier said; Rocky Marciano.
I'm not white so I don't ride Rocky's nuts but watch his fights. He took time to get in his groove but when he was there he kept swarming [throwing punches].
Watch his first fight with Ezzard Charles. I have never seen a fighter end a 15 round fight like that, it actually makes me suspicious that he was on something. Not even Joe Frazier, who had great stamina, has ever finished a 15 round war throwing non-stop haymakers.
Aaron Pryor no doubt is the best at that aspect followed by Henry Armstrong who was more defensive minded.
Chavez Sr in his prime had criminally underrated defense while coming forward, I think his prime was his first 50-60 fights before his drinking days. Carlos Zarate although not as good as Chavez was also underrated defensively, dont let his KO record fool u.
Of today's fighters the best is Roman "Choclatito" Gonzalez from Nicaragua, hes the best combination puncher today and the best at slipping punches while cutting off the ring. Dont forget about Kassim Ouma, watch his fights when he was the champ very impressive
My vote goes to Roberto Duran, he was a far better boxer than people give him credit for, and Duran did in Montreal to Ray Leonard what Maidana did to Broner, he swarmed over him, but avoided the majority of the counter shots Ray tried to throw.
Can't be Tyson, he can't fight going back.
Maybe punchers like Jones Jr., he's dangerous going forward and back.
duran had great defence at light weight .
could it be Tyson or Greb.
