It's like you said, he failed the Army IQ test or whatever it was, and he failed it horribly. He probably didn't want to take it in the first place though, and wasn't adept at reading/writing anyway.
He wasn't stupid at all.
That is absolutely not true. Ali graduate from Louisville High School however he was just pushed through. He was a semi-illeterate. He had a hard time reading a regular book and his writing skills were below average. He had a gift for gab like no other. There will never be another like him. His impact his charisma. They do not make athletes like Muhammad Ali anymore. He is a living icon and at one time the most recognized man on the planet.
During an Army exam provided by the draft board in 1964, Ali was commenting on a math problem that he had encountered during the exam. When Ali was informed that he did not fare well on that particular math question, he replied:" I said I was The Greatest, I Did Not Say I Was The Smartest".
Far from stupid, maybe book knowledge wise.Graduated 360 in a class of like 368. But was able to communicate with world leaders everywhere.
Never heard that yarn. If ever there were talks like that, boxing fans never believed in them. Ali probably is the smartest man ever to lace a glove on.
he had a bad reading and writing level due to never being taught properly and failed the army test however he showed extreme intelligence when asked questions and has arguably the slickest tongue in the history of sports. is this used by people to discredit him for not going to Vietnam and killing people
