manny pac knocks out ricky hatton
what do you think is the worst or biggest upsets
an upset is not to be taken literally...an upset occurs when the fighter considered likely to win easily actually loses the bout.....lewis was expected to beat tyson and pacman was supposed to beat hatton...real upsets are tyson v buster douglas (tyson was expected to win easily) and khan v bredis prescott (khan was expected to win easily)...
Those weren't actually "upsets", by definition, in the boxing world.
An "upset" is when the favorite (or the boxer that is the betting favorite going into the bout), ends up losing the bout to the underdog (or the boxer expected to lose).
So, according to that definition of the word, the biggest upset in boxing history, or probably sports history, is:
James "Buster" Douglas vs. "Iron" Mike Tyson - Going into the bout, Tyson was the betting favorite by a 42-1 margin (meaning, if anyone in the world actually bet on Douglas, they were to be rich). The bout ended in the 10th round as Douglas knocked out the undefeated, Mike Tyson.
But, just for fun, I have listed some other big upsets in boxing history:
Braddock beats Baer
Schmeling beats Louis
Clay (Ali) beats Liston
Foreman beats Frazier
Norton beats Ali
Ali beats Foreman
Spinks beats Ali
Foreman beats Moorer
Tarver beats Jones Jr.
Sanders beats W. Klitschko
None of them were ''Upsets'' maybe an upset to you as you wanted the other to win but in perspective, Mike Tyson was way passed his prime, many many many years passed his best.
Pacman beating Hatton was not an upset, pacman is one of the best lb for lb fighters in the world, Hatton isn't and wasn't, he was a great boxer but he wasn't at the top.
Worst - Spinks beats Ali.
Best - Braddock beats Baer.
Most upsetting for me - Palomino beats Dave "Boy" Green - world title fight. Best hook ever seen in a boxing ring, to knock Dave out.
