No one is ducking anyone ,the reason the fight hasn't been made is because of the bad blood between Mayweather and Bob Arum and Top Rank wants to keep all the money with in his circle of fighters.
This will still be the biggest fight since Tyson/Lewis ,even after it has loss some of it's luster ,so of course i want to see it.
As a fan, I would love to see this fight happen. The fact that it hasn't happened yet is just a harsh reminder that boxing is clearly not the sport it once was. Gone are the days when ''Number One Contender" actually meant something.
.
From the time this fight was first mentioned, Mayweather had more to lose than did Pacquiao. I can understand why some think that Mayweather is avoiding Pacquiao. I've had some doubts too until I looked further into the situation.
.
For all his boisterous exterior, it has always been important to Floyd how he's viewed, especially before mainstream America. It's complicated but I'll try to shorten it as best I can.
.
From the beginning, Floyd wanted to follow a similar path that Sugar Ray Leonard followed. However, falling just short of an Olympic gold metal, winning a bronze instead.
.
Mayweather decided to turn pro. However, there was another matinee idol in his path. By the time Mayweather set his sights on the upper echelon of the sport, that top spot was already occupied by Oscar de la Hoya.
.
Anything Oscar wanted was his. Knowing that he could never match Oscar's status among mainstream Americans, Floyd decided to become the chief villain to Oscar's hero. He hounded Oscar until the fight was actually made.
.
Once Mayweather defeated Oscar, it moved him to a higher level but there was still a large segment of Americans that embraced Oscar. They didn't care about Mayweather defending the title. They wanted to see Oscar regain it.
.
Then Mayweather retired and the demand for him to fight grew. During Mayweather's time away, Oscar also retired. Then Mayweather came back. He'd finally earned the the respect of the public...........or did he?
.
Wherever he turned, people were talking about "This Asian guy" who's knocking everybody out. Enter Pacquiao. The more time progressed, the more America embraced Pacquiao. Again, Mayweather felt left out in the cold.
.
Here is where people think he fears Pacquiao, and why that's not true.
.
Pacquiao is the one opponent against whom Floyd had NO psychological edge. All his antics that he used against others would not work against Pacquiao. Floyd got so far under Oscar's skin that Oscar fought like a fool. He rendered Mosley speechless during the press promotions. With such a large American following, Mayweather couldn't even tell a joke without heavy backlash.
.
Against Pacquiao, Mayweather must have felt the weight of the entire American press. It is similar to the position Frazier was forced into whenever ALI was around. Proving he doesn't need Pacquiao is something I think Mayweather feels he HAS to do. .
.
The bottom line is that Mayweather doesn't like being dictated to. He has a good reason for feeling that way because he has kept a clean record. He's the draw in the sport.....................but Pacquiao remains.
.
To a point, one fighter controls the destiny of the other. Neither can avoid the other without at least some backlash. Still, at every turn, Mayweather has more to lose than Pacquiao.
I just want to see them fight, that's what personally matters to me. I'm pissed the fight didn't happen when it should've, in like 2009-10, but I guess it's be better late than never.
Forget the "who ducked who". Come on man, neither of these guys are scared of the other. It's about beef between promotions and personal vendettas.
This hasn't been about one guy avoiding the other, it's about how Pac is too loyal to Arum and will only do what he's told.
It's about the emotions and resentment between Floyd/Arum, and how they clearly don't want to work together b/c they hate each other sooo much.
By the tone of your question, you already have your deeply rooted ideas on the responsible party. I want the fight but not in a manner that favors one guy or the other. At this point, I feel if Floyd won he wouldnt get credit, so why even do it.
like I said, floyd loses eitherway, sean is right this time...
but what matters most is legacy, how history will write about their greatness, and floyd always loved the idea of it...sad but pac is his only ticket to greatness.
some ppol wants to see floyd rides off the sunset undefeated
some wants him gets beat
some just want pac get the chance to be in the ring against mayweather
me I just want them to fight and if not, I just want it clear who really ducked who?...and hope he wont get away for robbing me of the fight of the century
what about you?
