Marvelous Marvin Hagler was very confident and always praised his opponent. I think it was because he had remembered how hard it was to get a title shot. In 1979, Hugo Corro of Argentina, was the World Middleweight Champion, preparing to defend his title against Vito Antuofermo, in Monte Carlo. Hagler had been trying to get the man that the boxing public was saying was the second coming of retired World Middleweight Champion Carlos Monzon, of Argentina. to give him a title shot. Instead Antuofermo fought and defeated Corro by a majority decision in that June 30,1979 encounter. Hagler fought a 15 round draw with newly crowned champion Anutofermo on Nov 30,1979. Then on Sept 27,1980, in London, he defeated world Middleweight Champion Alan Minter, Great Britain, by a TKO3, to win the title. He was a proud champion fighting anyone and everyone, not worrying about the purse or venue. He conducted himself as a true champion in and out of the ring, a great professional.
Marvelous Marvin Hagler was a top 10 middleweight. He was consistent and always in top shape. He was a fighter that was 100 percent dedicated to the sport of boxing. He was always in condition and never walked around with a pot belly during the time he was not in training. Despite his menacing look with the bald head and goatee he was not a bruiser or a slugger. He was a counterpuncher who would wear an opponent down. That was his m.o. He was not a slugger but he had decent power. He was not a top notch boxer but he could box. He did everything well making him a complete fighter. He had 12 title defenses in the very talented middleweight division. He was champ from 1980-87. He was never media friendly and that was held against him. Something like Larry Holmes another all time great who never got his just due. Yes his chin was iron and his only knockdown against Juan Domingo Roldan was a slip.
Hagler's boxing ability made him great. He had a great jab, a high work-rate, very good footwork, solid parrying skills and head movement, the ability to throw good accurate combinations and was a master counter puncher. He was also a very versatile fighter. He could box from the outside, brawl, apply pressure, and effortlessly switch between southpaw and orthodox.
His speed and power were also above average.
Determination, he trained and fought very hard, he did not take off rounds, and could take a punch.
His mind set during a fight was to destroy the other fighter, which meant he focused only on winning the fight.
Except for Leonard who refused to give him a rematch, he beat everyone who beat him in their rematches.
he was marvelous, and he would have put a whoopin on that boi Monzon from Argentina
i know he had great chin and boxing ability but he wasint the fastest nor was he the biggest puncher of his weight class
