Mike was only fighting more money during this stage of his career, he was a joke, despite all this Lewis Ko'd Mike in round 8. ROUND 8!!! Now imagine a '88 Tyson entering that ring, Tyson will destroy Lewis in a few rounds and this isn't even a close matchup.

You might be right. Consider the fact that Lewis is actually nine months older than Tyson. It just shows that boxers don't always prime at the same point in their careers. Lennox was actually at his best after age 30, around the time he rematched Hasim Rahman.
By 30, Tyson was well past his prime. Naturally, the time off for incarceration didn't help him. However, he could have continued well had he not forsaked training and taken on such soft competition. The Holyfield fight spelled the beginning of the end for Tyson because it showed that he was not as mentally strong as he once was. It also showed that Holyfield always had his number.

Had Lennox and Tyson fought around the time he iced Michael Spinks, Tyson's best chance would have been to catch him early. There is still the chance that Lennox would survive the early onslaught but Tyson's best chance would have been to fight him then, when Lennox was still developing.
