Mike Tyson had a terrible past. His childhood and youth were extremely hard.
Which is why later he became a very sensitive man!! Most people never understood the outstanding personality this dude had deep inside of him. In the beginning of his career he actually cried ahead of some fights because he was afraid to fail and that nobody would respect him because of a loss! Don't forget people aren't born as crazy individuals. The world around them has a high influence on how they develop as a person. Tyson was mistreated by many different people, so he learned to distrust everybody at first. He also never knew his father I think. So Cus D'Amato (his first boxing coach) was the first real father figure he had. He loved this man more than any boxer I can think of loved his coach. They had an extremely close relationship. D'Amato was the only person on earth Tyson could unreservedly trust in.
Now suddenly when Tyson was 19 his coach passed away which swept away the ground under Tysons feet. This was the moment when Tyson really went "crazy". There was nobody left who stood on his side as a straight friend. Still today this is the baddest thing that ever happened to Tysons psyche, of course right behind his daughters death in 2009. You could really say Tysons life was a tragic one, he actually had a lot more misfortune than common.
It's easy to criticize Tysons behaviour. But in fact most people would develop a similar personality if they had to live his life.

Mike had his momennts back in the day, but he seems to have settled down in recent years/ "Crazy" is not a term that can really be applied with any accuracy, in truth we really can't define "Normalicy" either, but most of us recognize the lack of normalcy or sanity when we see it. There were times when Mike simply wasn't acting "sane". We have all had times like that, it's just that in Mike's case, he did it in front of tv cameras' and it is still floating around on YouTube.
The short answer is "Yes" Mike was really crazy but than so is/was everyone else, nobody is really sane for any real length of time people continuously fluctuate.
The guy with "best answer" isn't correct. Mike absolutely knew his real father and at one time suckered mike just like so many other people in his life.
Back then he probably was. Constant rape and assault charges outside of the ring and biting a mans ear off inside the ring doesn't make you sane. He seems to be a changed man but seems to have something odd about him, similar to a paedophile perhaps. I'm not calling him a pedo but I feel that he seems strange similar to one.
Yes he had some mental issues I dont believe this was all to blame for his down fall
Not crazy but mentally unstable.
He was a bad mix of minorly stupid, and really really high.
That causes real errors in judgment.
