what do you think?
I think that Iron Mike Tyson dominated the heavyweight division in the mid to late 1980's. But before he went to prison he was knocked out by James Buster Douglas on Feb 10,1990 in the tenth round. As I have said before, he cannot blame the referee, he placed himself in that predicament by not taking his opponent seriously and hanging out with parasites, Yes Men. But truthfully, if he had been in the era of the 60' and had to fight the Henry Cooper's Zora Folley's', George Chuvalo's,Sonny Liston's, Eddie Machen's, Muhammad Ali's Floyd Patterson's,, Ernie Terrell's and the Cleveland Big Cat Williams he would have had a tough time, even lost a few bouts. These fighter would have exposed him, as Douglas and Holyfield did.. In the 70's he would have faced the Oscar Bonavena's, a young George Foreman, Smokin Joe Frazier's, Ken Norton and Irish Jerry Quarry. His 1980's competition has yet to be desired as they are trivia questions. Trevor Berbick, James Bonecrusher Smith, Jose Ribalta, James Quick Tillis, and Tony TNT Tucker. Larry Holmes was past his prime and had seen better days, when Tyson knocked him out on January 22,1988. Tyson in his era was good, but as I have said ,You cannot depend on sheer power alone, you need to think in the ring. That is what separates the great fighters from just a flash in the pan.
Hello...I agree with you..he was a well trained, dedicated natural at the sport..at 18 yrs. old knocking out and dominating all those in the heavyweight ranks..and in that fight against Buster Douglas many forget that Tyson knocked him down and Douglas just made it,getting up at the 9 count (some say he was given a break by the ref, moving Tyson to a neutral corner, then beginning the count!),the next round was when Tyson lost..but things went bad for him after he got rid of Rooney and began associating with the rip-off weasel,Don King.
No one is invincible, Mike had a hall of fame support group put a bunch of tomato can's in front of a camera for him to knock over, the first three dozen fights Mike fought were designed to create the illusion of invincibility, It was designed and scripted for the camera, and the media did the rest, a brilliant career strategy that worked to perfection. A level competition was avoided and Mike feasted on B and C level victims, the rest was history. Tyson was a heavy puncher but not a great boxer.
he looked it at the time but if he were around in a tougher era he wouldn't of been so dominant.i agree tyson dominated his opponents like no other and that's because of his style.he came out and tried to run guys over and if he was better than his opponent he ran them over in no time at all.this is why his style was such a crowd pleaser. it's also why so many casual fans have the misconception that tyson is the best heavyweight ever because all they see is a guy destroying his opponents in no time at all.they have no understanding of styles.they do not realise that other fighters could have nullified his attack, broken him down or just blasted him out of there.
what i can say about tyson is in his prime he had the most dangerous offence in heavyweight history.he had a greater chance at scoring the KO than anyone else ever had.a prime tyson has a considerable chance of upsetting any heavyweight in history
NO!
As Bil... pointed out and the fact that he was still undefeated and pre prison when Buster Douglas beat him. Tyson was only 24 years old and undefeated in 1990 when he first lost. I'd say that was prime Tyson right there.
great yes but invincible no tyson wasint very well tested in his prime he never beat a great fighter in his prime he beat some decent but not great fighters and most of the guys he beat were scared of him even if they fought back they still showed fear also his stamina and balance werent great the potential for greatness was there
When guys like Quick Tillis, Mitch Green Jose Ribalta, Bonecrusher Smith and Tony Tucker extend you into the 10 round + then that's not being invincible IMO. Good entertaining small heavyweight for that era, but maybe his lack of discipline and troubles make him 9-10 maybe all time.
w/ kevin rooney on his side, no don king & etc....yes, i think so...
problem w/ some regular geeks here in Y/A...they underestimate power...when someone begins to climb up and clean an entire devision knockin them all out, they become skeptics than fans, they are like a "color-blind" person that lacks something inside their brain that unable them to gauge true power. they are so pathetic they think that even the gifted, those who where born w/ power, can be beat by the brightest, for them intelligence is superior to power, as if boxing is a boring chess game....just like what holyfield and marquez did in order to win, (am not saying they used PEDs)...it's just that they both bulked up and added extra power just to match tyson and pac's power...in the end, they resort to adding power instead of using intelligence to beat power...that's a fact!
the idea of invincibility can only be attributed to power, not skill....
Mike was deadly in his prime he had movement head bobbing side to side action and he wasn't waiting on one punch more like wearing you down
i think he was at the time because noone could challenge him. i think he had a two year period (86-88) when noone could beat him.
when Kevin rooney was his trainer...was Iron Mike invincible..cause ive never seen a fighter dominate his opponents like Iron Mike did
what do you think?
who is he
