But that was all he did ever
Tell me if Im wrong
Gerry was a good fighter, a bit overrated for obvious reasons, but a very good puncher, and somewhat underrated right hand. The thing that hurt Gerry, was that he didn't fight more of his contemporaries.I don't see him beating a Michael Dokes, or Greg Page in the 1981-1982 time period, and there were a couple of others that I don't see him overcoming. His managers should've had him go after Mike Weaver, maybe he would've become champion of the world if he did that.
I believe that Gerry Cooney could have been an excellent heavyweight, but in reality was held back by his legal minded managerial team taking on small bit fighters till he met Champion Larry Holmes. Cooney could have been very good.
He was a very good fighter who could have been a champ in a different time era.
Also at this time Don King controlled the major heavy weights and Cooney refused to sign with King so he had a very difficult time advancing and staying in the top ranks.
Gerry Cooney was a very good fighter. It's just that the competition during his time was way-way too fierce. Just like most fighters you hear say it theirselves, it's all about timing too to be a great. Like Mayweather Jr, his timing was perfect and got to dominate.
Ha, no he was not very good in fact him and Tommy Morrison looked good until they started actually facing good boxers. Big Hench is a total fat old retard literally he is one of the dumbest most ignorant people I've ever talked too and it is so much fun to pick on his old @ss. Any ways no he was average and I'm being generous an out of shape david tua would have beat him. Old Foreman knocked him the f*ck out.
Of course! One of the best heavyweights not to become a champion and definitely a top 10 among the hardest punching heavyweights of all time.
was he ever a good fighter!!! was yer mom ever a man? he was a GREAT fighter. one of the bestest of all time boy. he knocked out ken "the bum" Norton so fast he beat the world record, he beat guys like ron lyle and Leroy boone and he beat the hell out of larry holmes for 12 rounds before he finally got bored of larry's running and decided to go get something to eat instead. even foreman said he was the hardest puncher he'd ever been in with. Gerry cooney could have beat Tyson, ali and holmes on the same night at his bestest.
I tell you: his secret was: POTATOES!
I know he knocked out Norton in 1981 in about 10 seconds
But that was all he did ever
