Nonito is simply a very good puncher and also a very good boxer. He is both but elite at none. It seems the Rigondeuax fight zapped a lot of his confidence. And also the fact that he isn't as good against boxers or counter punchers. He is like Pacquaio in a way. He absolutely destroys aggressive fighters but against more patient, thinking fighters, he struggles.
Vic is hard to beat, first fight ended too quickly, but oh well...a win is a win. Can't just walk right through any prize fighter that wants revenge.
lol he got jizzed on by Rigo in April and just mentally aint there no more. Sounds like he sees training as a burden rather than actually having the desire to do so based on his interviews.
Now he getting all defensive and making unnecessary comments e.g. referring to Rigo as Max Kellermans boy. His team should avoid Rigo next March like the damn plague if they have any common sense.
Retirement is a very personal decision but the drive just seems to have gone. New baby, decent paydays, multi weight champ. Maybe it's time to hang em' up.
for vic, the 2nd try always surpasses the 1st
for nonito, he needs to gather his confidence again
Did Rigondeaux do a number on his confidence or what?
Was his last fight a case of Vic being more prepared and ready for this fight or was Donaire just not up to his usual standard? Vic said he didn't know who he was fighting back in 07, he's obviously put a lot of time and thought into his strategy but got caught out. Darchinyan is 37 years old, had to make the 126 weight which team Nonito demanded but still looked quite good until the point he got caught out. Was Donaire's strategy to lure Vic into a firefight so he could knock him out, or did he really get outboxed and outgunned by an older, wiser fighter.
For me the most telling part was the post fight interview, Nonito looked a little shaken and unsure of himself. No smiles or celebrations from him after the stoppage either which is unusual for the usually effervescent Filipino fighter.
