overrated pernell whitaker who did he ever beat? a draw with a shot chavez seems to be his claim to greatness & chavez lost his first fight 4 months later to frankie randell so i just think the timing was right for whitaker who was a very good fighter maybe top 40 but not top 10
As far as accomplishments go thats how ill rank them, I think everyone has Sugar Ray Leonard at # 1 so for a change Ill omit him and make him Champion of the greatest of all time and start with # 1 under him.
1. Henry Armstrong - You can make an argument for him to be right with Sugar Ray, from the videos I did see this guy looks like a monster, he seemed way faster and moved better then his opponents, he would smother boxers and out punch punchers. He was also a 3 division champion when there were only 8 divisions and one belt in each.
2. Benny Leonard - From all the info you can gather this guy was a master technician. Very fast and hit very hard, he was leagues ahead of his competition.
3. Harry Greb
4. Archie Moore
5. Ray Leonad
6. Willie Pep
7. Joe Gans
8. Muhammad Ali
9. Ruben Olivares
10. Ricardo Lopez
Most over rated Rocky Marciano, not that he isnt great, he is certainly a great, accomplished heavyweight but really for most of his short career he fought hand picks and stiffs, he fought a couple contenders, he did not do well against movers who could counter punch, and after the close call with Lastarza they did not make the mistake of putting him in against any fast young fighters, instead choosing to clean up the divisions older former greats, then he won the title from a worn out Walcott, only defended it 6 times all against old fighters. So not that he isnt good, but some people make him out to be a god. He wasnt. He was an exciting, tough as nails champion who was white in a time when that was very important. A close second is Cesar Chavez.
Underrated fighter, maybe Lennox Lewis, sure he lost twice two to big punchers, but he avenged both loses and when he was motivated he couldn't be beat. In his prime he was avoided by a prime Riddick Bowe and a very very good Mike Tyson. When he was motivated he destroyed good fighters, decimating them, Ruddock, Bruno, Morrison, Golotta, Botha and up n comers Grant. He made highly regarded David Tua look like a plodding heavy bag. He took the big Vitli Klitchko on 2 weeks notice, and an old out of shape Lennox Lewis opened six cuts above Klitchkos eyes. He beat every heavyweight there was out there to beat. He defeated every man he ever faced. He faced adversity in being knocked out and coming back to knock them out in return, and breaking one man to tears. When Lewis was determined, motivated and in shape I'm not sure there is a heavyweight in history that could beat him.
Mohammad Ali, Joe Fraizer, Henry Armstrong
