Should Andre Berto retire? Too much damage?

Gatsu,

What we are seeing is the slow downfall of a fighter who's time has passed. When you watched the fight this evening injury or no injury Berto had a hard time finding his own identity. He fought the tuck and roll style which did not work out for him at all. He was getting hit with shots that he should have never have gotten hit with. The lead straight right particularly.

Gatsu, Andre's legs were shot just midway through round four. Andre got hit with a straight right followed by a left hook and presto legs are gone. Another thing that happens to Berto now is the tissue around both of his eyes begins to break down and is evident by the mid rounds.

I enjoy watching Berto fight Gatsu, but he's taking shots now from guys who can crack and he's being damaged. His corner should have stopped the fight once they seen he wasn't taking the punches so well. Soto wasn't going to be taken out by Berto, that was obvious after the third round something his corner missed.

Let me end Gatsu by writing both of these guys took tremendous shots and both are on the losing end of the stick here, the only difference is, one guy had his arm raised and the other didn't, Fights like this is what makes Boxing the greatest sport ever and it puts fans in the seats begging for more. I appreciate what these two fighters did for our enjoyment and I hope that Andre Berto has a serious talk with someone who actually cares about him and not the $$$$$$ and talks him into retiring..

I think he should retire, but not for the reasons of age or anything like that. The truth is, he was never that good.

I was one of the first to tout Andre Berto when he came on the scene. His speed and knockout power was insane to watch. But the truth is (and as many on this board corrected me on) it was too soon to see if he could hang in the top ten.

Berto is stuck in the horrible position..of not having enough of a chin to be able to be a fighter, and not having enough head movement or skill to be a boxer. He cant slip a punch, and his defense is questionable. For all of his physical ability, he was not properly trained.

This is not something a new trainer can fix, if you dont get it at an early age its not natural to you when you need it to be.

Hes gone as far as hes going to.

He is still way too young to hang his gloves up (29 years old). Best move for him right now, is find a new trainer.

He has been in too many Wars recently and had two Wars in a row. I think Andre Berto should hang the gloves up and maybe do something else with his life. Has Andre Berto invested his money intelligently or has he blown the money he has made from boxing?
