The obvious answer is "YES"..Saul Alvarez up until tomorrow night is nothing more than a "PAPER CHAMPION". However, I think he's gone about rectifying that in the proper manner. He could've easily hid in Mexico and faced a plethora of Taxi Drivers and Pizza Delivery Boy's, but he's stepping to the plate and facing someone who I think is the best Middleweight in the world..Jr. Middleweight and Middleweight.
Saul Alvarez is skilled and I think his youth, strength, and consistency will make for a tough night. Nonetheless, I think Austin Trout will find a way to beat him. Trout's more skilled, has a top amateur pedigree, and with half as many fights he's actually faced a tougher schedule as a professional.
The jury is still out on Saul Alvarez in my humble opinion. I've never see how he handles trouble, how he makes adjustments, and how he preforms when the skill level is equal. It's easy to look like a prodigy fighting an old Shane Mosley or Jose Lopez who was naturally two weight classes smaller....Austin Trout is REAL and I want to see how Alvarez handles him.
Julio Cesar Chavez had almost twice that many fights and wins before breaking to prominence and establishing himself as a true champion at 130 lbs. Never mind Rhodes and Matthew Hatton who anyway was fighting as lightweight before taking on Canelo at 147 lbs. Cintron and Mosley were already spent forces at the lower welterweight class. Josesito Lopez was a 140 pounder before he upset Victor Ortiz who was also a blown up junior welter to earn the crack versus Alvarez. What does that tell us?
We will know for certain after Canelo fights his first legit 154 pounder still unbeaten and at the top of his game in Austin Trout. I hope that there will be NO DOUBT as to who will be unmasked.
Alvarez has fought a few decent boxers and a shot Mosley, but he hasn't fought anyone prime and world class. Trout will be his first big test. If he wins, people will call him the real deal. If he loses, he'll be called over hyped. We shall wait and see!
hi eddie , i like canelo i like his style of fighting he throws nice combinations working the body and head like a typical mexican fighter . i feel for canelo a bit as every fight he has had lined up seemed to fall through like ortiz and cotto i haven't seen much of trout to call how the fight will go but i hoping for a alvarez KO we shall see later.
who has trout beaten a washed up cotto, ;aporto, delvin rodriguez so his resume it's not that impressive either is a 50/50 fight,I am rooting for canelo to knock him flat out so there could not be any controversy but in boxing anything can happen.
I think canelo is the real deal...A whole package, he has the power, style, body to be that certain guy...
i think he's the real deal, but its too soon to label him a legend, or the new sal sanchez.
well we shall find out tomorrow
We will see tomorrow.
Ok.... 42 fights unbeaten is an amazing achievement. Too be 42 and unbeaten at age 22yrs is a totally different ball game....
The bulk of his resume is built on names I never heard of... This means a bunch of rope a dopes, pensioners, deadbeats, clapped out journeymen..
Yet there is still certain names on it that cannot be taken for granted: Ryan Rhodes, Matthew Hatton, Kermit Cintron, Shane Mosley, Josesito Lopez.... To name but a few?
(Yeah I know... Rhodes, Hatton & Cintron may not be world class, but they come to fight..)
Shane Mosley could still teach a trick or two... Lopez demolished Victor Ortiz to the point of quitting on his stool, with a multi fractured jaw...
Yet...... A suspicion still niggles at the back of my mind...?
Is the Mexican legend in for a rude awaking tomorrow... Or will he consolidate his position as a potential boxing great..?
Opinions please gentlemen....
