Roy at 25/26 at 168 was just about unbeatable. Ward is a great fighter, but Roy was so fast, and styles make fights.
Roy beat lots of world class fighters with EASE. How many were prime? That's a fair question, but you could ask that of any fighter, even someone like Lennox Lewis. It didn't mean he couldn't, it's just circumstances.
I think Roy would have beaten Toney, Hopkins, Benn, Eubank etc, all at their absolute peak.
Roy went through fights in the 90's without barely losing a round.
I can't envisage Andre landing anything that would hurt Roy.
Roy's unbelievable footwork would have been the key to the fight.
Andre reminds me a little of Hopkins. But he wouldn't have been able to have coped with Roy's speed in my opinion.
I'd go for Roy via a comfortable points decision.
Now, Andre Ward, but a prime Roy Jones Jr. was near untouchable and no one beats that version of Jones minus a punchers chance.
Roy Jones in his prime
Andre Ward now
Agree with Maravilla, Roy Jones Jr would be too much for him in his prime but if they fought now, Andre Ward would most likely win.
Prime? I'd pick Ward. People say that Roy Jones Jr was unbeatable in his prime, but apart from a weight drained Toney, he never fought anyone who was world class in his prime. As we know now, Roy Jones has a very weak chin, so all it would have taken is someone who was quick enough to land good shots on him and he would have been in trouble. I believe Ward would have the speed and movement to land good shots, which is why I would pick him to win.
Ward. Easily.
