Roy Jones Jr : Gifted or more trained?

Captain Hook is probably the most gifted boxer we'll ever see in the ring, yeah I'd have him above Ali in that department...but hell RJ trained like a monster to get that ability out of him....It doesn't matter how much you train, if you don't have some ability you won't make it far...that's why RJ Jnr. made things look so easy, he was a master of his craft...he knew his abilities inside out and had a very good brain...sure you can train your @ss off and practice to get more powerful and more accurate but Jones' speed, reflexes, brain etc. were all gifted talents...you can't train dudes to have the speed and instinct he had...but to answer your question, both...with talent being superior sliightly

You just cannot train the speed and reflexes that Roy Jones Jr. had he was able to do things that would normally be wrong but because of his God given speed and reflexes he made it right. Training cannot give that no matter how much any one trains

Honestly, gifted.

If you look at Roy Jones in his latter years, his training didnt translate into much. Once he lost his genetic gifts his training was really not that impressive. He actually aged very quickly in the ring.

There were alot of flaws in the style RJJ used, and its basis was that his speed and power could compensate his flaws. Once they disappeared, so did the success of his style.

You could have 100 people work HARDER at RJJ's training, without the gifts it wouldnt have produced a thing. His father was hardly a world class trainer.

Boxers aren't born, they're made. Of course some people end up being better than others, but that's because of a number of reasons such as personality and the way they train. Another factor is natural speed. You can increase your speed by only so much which is largely down to the genes you end up with

Both, you have to be born with it, but you still have to take proper care to develop it. Roy was that combination of rare God given ability and proper training.

His father's abuse on him was the main reason he was such a good abuser in the ring. Thats what differentiated him combined with his father being a pretty good trainer. But mainly the abuse taught and handed down to him. If you ain't as mean as Jone's father, you can forget beating him in his prime.

The physical gifts - speed, quickness, reflexes and power - are in-born. The fighting skills, however, came from those long hours spent in the gym.

Roy Jones Jr. has been training like a pro athlete every day of his life ever since he was around 10, shown in his documentary. His dad trained him to become a world class boxer ever since.

Many people say Roy Jones is naturally gifted. Do you think that being extremely trained at the age of 10 had a large effect on his physical abilities? Or are his abilities just gifted by God?
