Oh yes, and heavyweight championship bouts even hugged the headlines in many countries despite the Korean and later the Vietnam wars and other conflicts during the Cold War. For years, the cold war between Golden Boy and Top Rank eclipsed the heavyweight scene which was and has been dominated ho-hum by the dour fighter brothers from Ukraine, one of which even had to go out of boxing for the even more challenging political arena back home.

Our local paper, the Boston Record American and many papers, etc. would carry news on upcoming heavyweight championship bouts. Today you hardly see anything That goes for all boxing, as compared to the 60's.

It's a dead sport.....
