Not sure it's either a stupid , or a cowardly move.
Let me start by saying that Matt Korobov is a named fighter, and a very dangerous one at that. But I think Quillin determined that if he has to risk his WBO title and his undefeated record it has to be against a better named, though still very dangerous fighter than Korobov, preferably a fellow titleholder like him as Miguel Cotto, Gennady Golovkin and Danny Jacobs and for a bigger payday. I can't blame him for vacating as the WBO is perceived to be trying to force that fight against Korobov. There are really boxers with star complex, justified or not, who would not want to be ordered around by a boxing sanctioning body.
Cotto has recently confirmed that he won't see action for the rest of the year while Golovkin already has a scheduled defense against Marco Rubio this fall. So that leaves Jacobs as a viable opponent from the standpoint of a championship level fight. And I think a bigger offer has come Quillin's way.
We can't blame Quillin for deciding to vacate to pursue that bigger purse fight with Jacobs.
Anyway, I think Korobov will be fighting for the vacant title against another rated contender to be named by the WBO.
Yes I think fledgling RocNation winning the purse bid has something to do with it.
Quillin as I stated is wary of Korobov but his practicality and business sense has more to do with his decision: The opponent has to be a bigger name and the reward has to be bigger than $1.4 million if he is to risk his title and undefeated record.
I hope he fights jacobs.
He said on his twitter that he have big plans. I think he is giving us a hint that he'll fight a big named opponent later this year. That is the only thing I can come up with at the moment.

Either he's moving up in weigh ,having promotional problems or ducking the one that called him out ,Danny Jacobs.
