Hello sir and interesting match up! Oscar De La Hoya was obviously a very skilled fighter and fought and beat some of the very best in his ring career compiling a mark of 39-6-0 with 30 kayo's with wins over Whitaker,Chavez, Quartey, Carr, and Gatti. I'm not so sure that this would be a favorable weight however against McCallum who fought all the way up to light heavyweight. As a light middleweight McCallum was undefeated and finished with a career mark of 49=5=1 with 35 kayo's with wins over such men as Milton McCrory, Julian Jackson, Donald Curry, Herol Graham Michael Watson, and Sambu Kalambay. He was well known as a great body puncher despite his height and reach ths the nickname of 'The Body Snatcher" This is how I see this fight going:
The Fight
De La Hoya would come out strong showing great footwork and hand speed as McCallum is getting his timing down in the first few rounds. Around round 5 McCallum would show his superior strength ad power landing well to the body of De La Hoya and slowing him down effectiely. Over the next few rounds McCallum would turn this fight completely in his favor landing crisp shots and outpunching Oscar in the process. In round 10 McCallum would land several crunching body shots followed by a vicious right hand sending De La Hoya down for the 10 count.
Winner KO10 McCallum
Bernard Hopkins hit Oscar De La Hoya with a liver punch and Oscar fell down in pain. Mike "The Body Snatcher" McCallum would do the same to him. Mike by 8th round TKO.
Mike McCallum is one of the most underrated and avoided boxers of the last 40 years. McCallum would beat Oscar quite comfortably.
OK, here's the answer.
If you are making up a dream match, then it's a big fight. If Oscar De La Hoya is in a big fight, then he loses. Therefore, Oscar De La Hoya loses.
Modus Ponens
McCallum had atremendouss jab and body punch. Oscar was felled by a body punch and I don't see any reason to believe he'd outlast those from McCallum. Late round TKO victory for McAllum. Oscar couldn't win the big ones. IMO.
the bodysnatcher was one of my favourite boxers back in the day. de la hoya wouldn't beat him. late tko for mccallum.
de la hoya for sure!
12 rounds, light middleweight division. Who wins?
