Whatever people say about Hopkins he has a great quality of opposition, he could have cherry picked after he became a big name but didn't, even into his late 40's.
Carl Froch is another. Ever since he beat Pascal for the WBC super middleweight title a few years ago he has fought a succession of top fighters and has often gone into their own backyards to do so.
Excluding old washed up greats like RJJ Holyfield and Toney, my list goes something like this
1) Hopkins
2) Froch
3) Pacquiao
4) Bradley
5) Ward
Carl Froch has gone from one war, straight into another.
There are very few 'names' that seek a hard nights work anymore...
Tim Bradley has faced a good run of tough opposition, so has Amir Khan.
Mares is a guy who often gets overlooked because he's in the lighter divisions. He's gone on an undefeated run against Perez, Darchinyan, Agbeko, Morel, Moreno, and PDL. Four of those guys were reigning champs at the time. Viloria and Donaire were also on nice runs until their recent losses.
Froch is a good choice. I'd actually support Pacquiao here too. You can crap on his resume at 147 and 154 but he's also beat Marquez, Barrera, and Morales.
