Pay-per-View sales does NOT = the most watched.
The most watched fight was;
''Fight of the Century'' between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, it is estimated that 300 million people watched it live around the world [Oscar-Floyd less than 10 million].
Both were former Olympic gold-medalist, both were undefeated, one was a universally recognized heavyweight champion, the other was a former-universally recognized heavyweight champion who left the title vacant.
Joe Frazier won by ud 15 rounds.
The fight was NOT pay-per-view in most countries, most people with a tv saw it FOR FREE. This was at a time when few people had tv's to watch, but streets were empty, people went to public squares or family/friends homes to WATCH the fight on a tv.
Still, it was not the most significant fight, nor the most broadcaster. Back in the day fight's were broadcasted via radio, but that's another topic...
If we go by PPV, it's the ODLH-Floyd Mayweather fight with 2.5 million paying household viewers
De la Hoya vs Mayweather had the biggest ppv sales i believe.
