True defensive wizards have been rare in pro boxing. I can only think of Willie Pep, Nicolino Locche, Wilfred Benitez and Pernell Whitaker and perhaps Sugar Ray Leonard and Hector Macho Camacho as among the best defensive master boxers ever to emerged in the fight sport before Floyd Mayweather.
Given that I think Mayweather's defense is greater to behold and appreciate than Pacquiao's offense which is already a given.

Defense therefore has gained another measure of appreciation from the most hard core and even casual fans.
Depends on who is faster. Think of it as an army A tryring to flank army B. doesn't mattet if army B can see army A flanking them. If they can't react fast enough to launch a counter attack. They'll get flanked by army A.
Same thing with pacquiao-mayweather. Doesn't matter how good floyd defense is. If he can't react fast enough to pacquiao lightning speed punches. He is going to get punch.
But now I see how many times a flat footed fighter can set up traps against floyd. How much more from a speedy guy like pacquiao.
Mayweather defense. Yes, pac man has crazy speed and angles. However, old man marquez literally made pac man miss 6 to 8 punches in a row. Also, marquez was fkd over at least twice out of the first three fights. Now, a superior version of marquez, may would figure pac out by the 3rd or 4th round and make him look bad and win a close decision.
If rather have Floyd's defensive skills. Pacs offense has slowed down and he's taken way too much punishment.
floyds defense is like a fortress...
but against an inferior army... against low ranked, low risk, cherry picked opponents
now imagine a well equipt army, like a battalion of relentless catapults rapidly bombarding that fortress, do you think it will stand?
we never saw floyed against such pressure fighter...someone w/chin, hard volume punches, stamina and most of all, speed.
thats the reason they call it the fight of the century 3-4 yrs ago..
its the only fight they dont see floyd winning..
but sad, floyed robbed us of that fight
mayweather defence is waay to good, manny couldnt get by it trust me....... mayweather has God given skill and talent end off
