Its a bit like Carl Froch vs George Groves. Froch looked terrible against an unproven opponent and had to set the record straight. Mayweather will be wanting to to the same.
I'd say Maidana swarmed Mayweather too much. He was all over him to the point where he was often too close to get his shots off properly. If he were to try and brawl in bursts, then move out, then go back in for another go, he may have more success. However if he doesn't tie Mayweather up at every opportunity, he gives him a chance to counter.
I think Mayweather wins this rematch more comfortably than the first fight which I thought he won by a couple of rounds.
I would not buy this fight, because I don't need to as BoxNation will be showing it here in the UK.
I'm happy for Marcos, my favorite fighter, I hope he gets paid and gets to use his gloves this time around but I don't expect a repeat of what happened last time. Floyd won the first fight, he had some trouble at first but he figured out Maidana early but wasn't able to put it together until halfway through the match and quite convincingly (IMO) came back to get the points for the victory.
This will be an easy fight for Floyd having already figured out the Argentine challenger, so it's easier than finding a new opponent. There aren't a lot of other options for him this Sept with Khan playing to his Muslim fans pretending to fast during Ramadan, who else is he going to fight that will generate as much interest.
It will take something big for Maidana to have even a remote chance of success in a rematch, as we've seen in the first fight he hit Floyd with a lot of shots but was never able to hurt the guy and his swarming techniques will only work against him now that Floyd has got the timing and rhythm down. I really hope Robert can come up with something new or change up his strategy enough that Floyd won't have it so easy.
I think Floyd is in a no win situation if he reneges on his promise to give Maidana an immediate rematch. Their first fight was as close as his first fight years ago with Luis Castillo where the fans and the media also demanded a rematch.
There was a strong clamor for an immediate rematch in the aftermath of Floyd's split decision win over Maidana and I think it has just piped down and not forgotten. If Floyd explores other fights, people would say he is ducking Maidana.
I think Floyd would have to close out his remaining assignment for the year by facing Maidana again and consign himself to doing something he has not done in many, many years that is fighting the same opponent within the same year which he was forced to do with Castillo in 2002.
Their first fight paled in comparison to Floyd's Alvarez and Cotto fights which is only to be expected and their rematch also does not figure to fare any better. But the promoter could stack up the undercards again to make the card more enticing.
No, this is not a great fight for boxing nor one that I'm particularly interested in for Mayweather at this stage of his career. Although Maidana arguably came the closest to beating Mayweather since Castillo back in 2002, he still pulled out the victory and I'm more interested in seeing Mayweather fight someone else since he's in his twilight. Maidana still could did not beat Mayweather on one of May's worst possible nights. I expect Mayweather to come in with less distractions on his mind, adjust to Maidana earlier, and win much more convincingly this time.
Maidana's best hope is that the first fight was not a fluke and that Mayweather is indeed slipping faster than we thought. Other than that, I wouldn't change much about his style. Simply keep coming forward, try to cut off the ring, force Mayweather to the ropes as often as possible, fight dirty if necessary, and KEEP PUNCHING. Maidana did these things really well for the first 6 rounds in their first fight; now he just needs to keep up that pace for the second half this time.
However, I don't think that's going happen and I expect Mayweather to be much sharper if this fight happens a second time. And yes, I would buy the fight since I always buy Mayweather fights and since Showtime knows how to stack their undercards.
No, I don't want to see that, I won't be paying for it either. I know Showtime and CBS aren't too happy with the numbers so far but I didn't see anything in the first fight that makes me think a rematch could produce a different outcome and so I don't see why I should be charged to see it again.
I would like to see Porter fight him next, not Maidana again. He can do everything Maidana can but with more power and speed and he's undefeated too so I don't understand why this fight doesn't make more sense for TMT.
I'm satisfied that Porter would eventually be beaten but unfortunately there isn't anyone at 147 or 154 that can trouble Mayweather so we may as well look at making fights that would be reasonably competitive as opposed to not at all
*If this fight is anything like the 1st, its great for boxing. People were ready to complain if Floyd fought Khan or someone else, who that didn't believe could push or defeat Floyd. Maidana obviously can push Floyd...this is a good fight.
*It's a detour. Floyd wanted a big money fight vs Khan, Ramadan killed that idea, so this is the fight he must take because of how difficult the 1st fight was.
*I think he fought the perfect fight. He isn't on Mayweather's level and he almost beat him.
*Yes
It will be a one sided boring fight, especially cause maidana power is reduced since mayshyt wont let him use the gloves. It wil start off with floyd letting him win 3 to 4 early rounds and then he will keep the fight in the middle of the ring and also tie him up and avoid the ropes trap to. Maidana will be gassed out trying to chase and hit. The ref will be on Floyds side. May wins by wide ud and retains title then trick people into the illusion of the first fight he went easy (which he didnt)
Floyd is giving Maidana a rematch because their first fight was compeitive. It will show us if Floyd can actually bounce back from a lack luster performance. I will definitely watch it because it's a decent fight at best.
Floyd just has no other real options for September. I don't see the point other than to just stay busy. The first fight was clear. Good action but not very close. I'll probably still buy it buy for boxing's sake but meh.
I love mayweather so i think he must win this fight because he have enough power for winn the game.
You can read a article about that:

Maidana has confirmed that his team are currently in negotiations with the Mayweather camp with regards to staging Mayweather vs Maidana 2 0n September 13th...
Mayweather was also hinting at the same during an awards ceremony over the weekend..
Is this a great fight for boxing?
