Mayweather Jr. overrated?

Posted at: 2015-04-20
Some of the boxing bodies ranked him top 20-25 All time and i guess that is just right because floyd is the most talented boxer of this generation and has beaten very good (but not so great) opponents, floyd fans tend to overrate him and by the way floyd overrate himself by saying he is greater than robinson or ali as well. So, top 20 atg is just right for floyd and that is not a very bad spot in this kind of competition.

anyway, bhop is a way way big for floyd while trinidad will be a little bit too much. either will beat floyd in middleweight easy when we talk about weight advantage.

leonard will beat him via decision in welter, duran will tko him in lightweight, while hearns will ko him in ww and mw.

some folks said that floyd called out mosley...i dont think that floyd has a chance with a guy who is fighting the likes of big ww vernon forest and mw winky wright during those times if im not mistaken.

I think Mayweather will retire a top 20 ATG.

He is 1 of the best defensive fighters ever. He has not always fought the best of his era. There is nothing more i can say about him that is absolute fact.

I think allot of fighters are overrated. Sugar Ray Robinson was great but many overrate him, they ignore other greats like Kid Gavilan who gave Robinson problems at 147lbs. They also assume that Robinson is undisputed the best p4p ever but you can make that case for Henry Armstrong or Harry Greb.

Allot of great fighters are overrated depending on who you ask.

Many many more fighters are underrated.

Denny Pill you don't know **** about boxing.

Trinidad had a world title at 147lbs, and Mayweather was a superfeatherweight when he called out Mosley [who was a supermiddleweight]. Mayweather was also a nobody who struggled with Castillo at the time. He was a small nobody when he called out Mosley

@Ray... Floyd Mayweather called out Shane Mosley after the Bruseles fight when Floyd was fighting at jr welter ,and Mosley was fighting at 154 (and Shane never fought at supermiddleweight as you claimed). That's what is happening in that video clip, if indeed you happened to watch it. If you're goin'g to tell someone else they don't know $hit about boxing for posting visual evidence, then you at least deserve to be stood corrected. So who really knows $hit about boxing here?.... Makes me wonder a little. You kind of shot yourself in the foot on that one, buddy.

This is your quote, Ray, that I'll post here in my answer in case you try to correct yourself and hide your evidence (as I've seen you do before, but I decided not to comment on).

("Denny Pill you don't know **** about boxing.

Ray, I'd advise you to think before you speak or you'll get called out on it. At least by me if nobody else does.

I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to talk boxing and point out facts and occasional ignorance. You just got caught in regard to the latter.

Mayweather was never a "nobody". He was simply a high risk low reward beast at the time that nobody wanted to mess with.

Also, "allot" is not a word. I've not wanted to have been an a$$ in pointing that out to you, but what I think you've been meaning to say all this time is " a lot".

@PerfectGrin aka Intrepid aka fu
To achieve greatness you need to have prime legends on your record eg. Roy Jones, he beat Toney, Hopkins and McCallum in their primes. Same with Pacquiao beating Morales Barrerra and Marquez twice each. James Toney beating Mike McCallum and Michael Nunn etc etc the list goes on. Mayweather has no signature wins. No all time greats.

I think he is great in terms of ability but in terms of resume and warrior spirit he is a journeyman at best haha

He's a really go of welterweight fighter but honestly, he fights people he knows he'll beat. It's took him this long to sign a contract to fight the southpaw manny who'll probably defeat him as may weather struggles againsed southpaws and manny is an excellent right jabbing fight with a ferocious left straight. He's over rated and will soon be defeated.

wtf teachur ronnie,

mosley just lost twice in a year when floyd called him out after the bruseles fight...

2 years later, mosley was on a 5 winning streak callin him out before the latter lost to cotto...

thats the time mayweather duck, i mean retire... X )

the welterweight was so hazardous that time so he simply chose to safety his health

and watch the three elites damage each other, cotto beat mosley, mosley beat margarito, margarito beat cotto... and then after 2 years floyd came back, beat the shop-worn cotto and out-primed mosley and just wont fight the midget braun man named pacquiao who beat the three elites in spectacular fashion

aw please, dont even try correct my "teachur"... i know the spelling is wrong, but teachur just sounds good to the ear.... better than "teacher" dork!!!!

@teachur ron

bullseye!!!! yea, thats what dorks do when they found themselves corrected, hahahahaaa!!!! "in my in my life"???? you stutter, stress? hahahaaaa, looooooser!!!!

Hopkins and Trinadad never fought below middle weight and Mayweather called out Shane Mosely in 2005 but Mosely refused to fight him. but i think he would have beat them all except Lenard. He wouldint have fought Hopkins or Trinadad because they were too big.. And for the guy above me here is proof Mosely Ducked Mayweather when Mosely was in his prime in 2005

I agree with you, He is a great fighter and has tremendous amounts of talent. Mayweather faces amir khan may 3rd this year, it will be interesting to say the least. Yes to end this i think he is overrated

he beat corrales in his prime hatton in his prime juan marquez in his prime canelo in his prime and many more

Floyd will fkng duck 'em all.

First, let me say Mayweather is a very talented fighter but I think he is where he is b/c he came into his prime yrs behind the wave of great fighters in his weight classes. Sure, he fought big names but after their prime.

Would love to see what would happen if he went up against Hagler, B Hopkins, S R Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Mosley, Trinidad - IN THEIR PRIME!!!

What do you think?
