Lopez ruined it by backing up after he was punishing Maidana and had him on his back foot. He started trying to keep distance and jab, but Maidana is good at walking you down and can't fight going backwards.
Tactical mistake by Lopez, although considering he couldnt' take Maidana's shots he probably would've got stopped eventually.
I'd like to see Chino take a stay busy fight, and then fight the winner of Matthysse-Garcia (aka Matthysse). All Argentina fight that would be ridiculously exciting.
Only thing is I hope Matthysse has no problem moving up in weight. I think he wont', he'll be up there soon probably, but you never know.
It was a good fight. Lopez is a tough customer and he was able to get to Maidana and earn his respect, but as I said in another post, pre-fight, you have to kill Maidana to back him off. He also slips and rolls with a lot of punches these days. His defense has improved. I figured that Lopez was going to succumb to Maidana's pressure. If Lopez did not really hurt Maidana early, it was inevitable.
I would like to see Maidana-Matthysse. I would also like to see him against the winner of Broner-Malignaggi.
Great fight, I see Maidana is a bit more focused now in terms of in ring energy and where he places his shots. I haven't had the chance to check the stats to see if he's actually become more accurate though. Josesito seemed to find some success with his footwork and movement early but was simply overmatched in there aginst El Chino. He's lucky the stoppage was early since he wasn't just taking bombs, he was taking bombs from Marcos Maidana, which is a scary thing when you think about all the people he's taken down in the past.
I have to say I have more admiration for Josesito who is hyped up from his win against Ortiz but chooses to fight actual competition with guys in their prime, than that punk *** Danny Garcia who fights old farts like Morales and Judah, and has yet to confirm any plans to fight Mattysse in September.
I would liked to see Maidana vs anybody good. maybe on the mayweather canelo undercard.
Lopez will learn from this fight, I think victor Ortiz is gona want a rematch.
Back and forth. Maidana always seems like he is hurt than he ends up coming back strong. Lopez fought a tough fight, and props for him to try to stay up from that onslaught. You have to admit though, I thought Lopez was on the verge of pulling off an Arturo Gatti.
Who do you guys want to see Maidana fight next?
