It would be a big jump up in weight for Adrien having been a super feather and lightweight for most of his still young boxing career. But the career move is wise. He bypassed the talent-laden and dangerous junior welterweight class and leaped-frog directly to the welterweights while choosing the perceived weakest titleholder in the division.
However, if he is expecting a cake walk against Paulie Malignaggi, he could be mistaken. Paulie, for all his perceived or real shortcomings, at least had the balls to tangle with prime time Miguel Cotto ( L UD), Ricky Hatton (L TKO 11), Juan Diaz (L UD, W UD), Amir Khan ( L TKO 11 ) Vladeslaw Senchenko ( W TKO 9) and Cesar Pablo Cano ( W Sd 12 ) not to mention the likes of Edner Cherry Lovemore Nadou and Herman Ngojou, all of whom he defeated.
If Paulie would be able to do what Daniel Ponce de Leon did against Broner, that is put up a tight defense while throwing high volumes of punches, including power, punches, I think he could get the judges' attention and has the chance of beating the brash Broner.
I hope Paulie also put the experience he amassed in fighting some of the top fighters to full use and fight a well-planned and disciplined fight against Broner. That means showing extreme maturity by resisting the urge to show boat, engage Broner in those silly macho thing and sticking strictly to the plan.
Malignaggi has turned into a kind of stepping stone. Broner is on the rise, and hungry for fame. I think Mr. HBO or Mr. Showtime, or whatever he calls himself is going to take it.
I agree with Bates, Malignaggi won't come to the ring with the tools to solve The Problem
It's an easy fight for Adrain Broner that I have no interest in seeing.
Should be a good fight,Malignaggi is no pushover.
