Hello sir! While I have a ton of respect for Julian Jackspon who is one of the p4p hardest punchers in boxing history. I will never forget his devastating knockout of Herol Graham as he was on the ropes and landing that big shot that sent Graham crashing like a tree face first on the canvas and completely out! But the ting about Jackson was he could also get caught with some big shots and get knocked out himself. In Roberto Duran you a have a man that is regarded as the greatest lightweight Champ in boxing history and a very fierce yet smart fighter that moved up in weight and defeated Sugar Ray Leonard and then almost even took the middleweight title from Hagler before fading late. He upset the odds by beating Iran Barkely and Davey Moore and looked brilliant in the process. Duran was much more than just an aggressive fighter and was hard to hit with a clean shot other than the one by Hearns of course and these skills were much greater than theskills possessed by Jackson in my opinion. So this is how I see this fight going:
The Fight
Jackson would come out strong taking the fight to the Panamanian terror who would counter well. Duran would land some good shots himself and make Jackson miss his big shots and tie him up when necessary fighting a very smart fight. In rounds 6-8 Duranwould begin to really turn the fight around and start to take the fight to Jacskon who would start to tire. In round 10 Duran would land a brillaint counter sending Jackson to the canvas. Jackson would get to his feet would be met by antoerh barrage of punches un til the referee stops the fight.
Winner TKO 10 Roberto Duran
Julian Jackson was a tremendous puncher but he is not that fast. Roberto Duran had a good chin and he was a master boxer. He went the distance with Marvin Hagler who was a good puncher in the middleweight division. He defeated a hard punching Pipino Cuevas. It's not that easy to hit Roberto, his defensive skill is underated. The only one that was able to land flush on Roberto was Thomas Hearns but Hearns has a cruiserweight/heavyweight height and reach. Julian Jackson will throw haymakers all night long but Roberto will make him miss and counter with his right for 12 rounds. Roberto Duran by unanimous decision.
Great match up! If Duran came motivated and ready to fight like he did against Davey Moore I think he'd beat Jackson, If he comes in listless and uninterested as he seemed against Tommy Hearns then he probably loses. I think he'd be motivated for Jackson, Jackson was a brutal puncher but Duran had good head movement and rolled with a lot of shots taking the steam off them in most cases (except for Hearns, lol). I think he'd do that a lot against Jackson and attack Jackson with a fury to the head and body. I might be in the minority here, but I say Duran stops Jackson by round 9.
Roberto Duran.
i'd pick jackson here. this one could have happened at 160 around '89 / '90 and the hawk would have taken it.
the jackson who kayoed norris also beats the duran who fought moore.
i'd say jackson
12 rounds, light middleweight division. Who wins?
