Broner may not be as experienced as JMM but he is faster, more talented, athletic and strong at that level and he will only get stronger as he matured as a full welter in due time.. By which time he will be more than ready for an ageing JMM. Not just ready but I fear would be too much for Juan Manuel.
Note that the Malignaggi bout was his first at 147 lbs. and Paulie despite his poor results at some points of his career at lower weights ( lightweight and junior welterweight ) seemed to have some rennaissance at welterweights. Paulie also made the likes of prime Juan Diaz look bad. He was just overmatched against prime Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto. Paulie is not all that bad career wise..
With all due respect to Adrien Broner, I don't think he's on the same level as Juan Manuel Marquez yet. I don't think this fight would be the same as Mayweather-Marquez at all. Broner might share a similar style with Mayweather, but he still has lot to learn and has not perfected that style yet. That being said, he can still get hit a lot, and Paulie Malignaggi gave him a very tough night throwing combinations and keeping Broner on the defensive. And Marquez is one of the best combination punchers in the sport.
The reason this won't be Mayweather-Marquez 2 is because when Marquez fought Mayweather, he was the aggressor, and Mayweather was counterpunching very effectively. Broner is nowhere near the counterpuncher Floyd is. If Marquez is the aggressor and does not stop throwing combinations, Broner will freeze as we saw against Malignaggi.
So the fight will be with Juan Manuel Marquez throwing combinations to Broner, most to the body because of Broner's shoulder roll and defensive tactics. He won't do it as effectively as Floyd does, and Marquez will land some clean blows. Not to say Broner doesn't make it competitive. He will make it a pretty good fight, countering Marquez when he misses, and landing pretty accurately. I think Broner's decent defense will be why he'll be on his feet, but Marquez would win this one by unanimous decision.
Anyone who still believes Broner is a defensively gifted fighter is just blinded by his self hype. Pac may not be a defensive master either, but he's actually more difficult to hit cleanly than Broner because he's constantly darting in and out and moving his head. Broner, on the other hand, tries to employ the shoulder roll defense with limited success. He's a fairly stationary target with little head movement, this is why Paulie was able to tag him repeatedly with combos to the body and head. So in a nutshell: Pac is vulnerable to counters from an expert counter puncher, while Broner's head and body can be teed off on with combinations (even a 5ft4 Rees was able to tag him cleanly).
Personally, I'd put my money on Marquez as Broner looked limited against the two best fighters he faced: an undersized De Leon and a feather fisted Paulie. His best chance of beating Marquez is if the 40 year old continues to decline physically.
Juan Manuel Marquez wins, he's more experienced and could exploit Adrien Broner's mistakes easily.
Adrien Broner still has much faster hands than Marquez but then again so did Manny Pacquiao.
I think since Broner has short arms like Pacquiao ,he will be vulnerable to Marquez and his onslaught because Broner will have to be close.
Both Broner and Marquez have excellent boxing fundamentals and are smart in the ring but i think the difference maker will be Broner and his faster hands and a better display of defense than Manny Pacquiao showed when he fought Marquez.
Broner by UD.
yep....
best answer please =)
Who would you bet on? I say Marquez would mop the floor with broners little ***** ***. Why? Broner isn't as fast as he is or talented. And the fact that Paulie made Broner look bad was even more convincing that Broner is a flat footed bum who can't imitate Mayweather for ****.
