Then again, like Louis to ALI, Johnson rarely had any kind words regarding Louis, especially when Joe declined Jack's offer to train him.
.
I place Louis above Johnson on my all-time list. However, I think Johnson's style would trouble Louis. Throughout his career, Louis always had trouble with certain styles. Billy Conn and Jersey Joe Walcott tell me that, on a given night, Gene Tunney could beat Louis. Everything Conn ever did, Tunney did better.
.
Jack Johnson would cause a lot of trouble for Louis. Joe is the perfect offensive fighter. He used every conceivable tool in the book and no one did it better. However, it's his defensive flaws that would trouble him here.
.
Johnson was right about one thing. Louis did have flaws. Among others were the fact that he never rolled with punches, and performed poorly against movers, two reasons why ALI beats him every time, IMO.
.
Give me 10 fighters who would beat Johnson and Louis beats 8 of them. But I could see Johnson winning their first bout in much the same way Max Schmeling did. That Louis wasn't in his prime but Johnson would still exploit him in ways that even Max didn't.
.
But that would be Johnson's only win. One thing about Louis. He really wasn't "a very bright boy", as Johnson (whose high intelligence was masked by his behavior) put it. But Louis was a student of the game in that he rarely made the same mistake twice.
.
They could fight 10 times and Johnson would win the first. Louis takes him every time after that.
.
Great fight of all time greats. Johnson was probably a little stronger with great counter punching and defensive skills while Louis had a better jab and more power. This would bea chess match with some very close rounds. Louis would establish control late in fight and take a close decision win.
Tough call. It would be Louis offence against Johnson defense. I watched the Louis-Conn fight and compared it to the Johnson-Ketchell fight and there I realised how fast Jack Johnson was. Johnson could escape punches from a middleweight and not just a middleweight, from a very fast middleweight in Ketchell. Johnson was faster than Louis when it comes to reflexes and hand speed. Johnson had also superior footwork. This is a tough one. On one hand Jack Johnson could decision Sam Langford, the only fighter that can be compared to Louis when it comes to finisher qualities. On the other hand Louis was famous for knocking much bigger and taller guys out than Jack Johnson(Primo Carnera and Buddy Baer to name some). It's a very close one, but I give it to Johnson. Jack seemed to never tire, due to his 20 rounder days. I think if Jack Johnson is enough acute of of mind during their fight, with constantly on the alert, he could escape Louis punches for 15 rounds. And we have to remember how smart Johnson was, he wouldn't be dumb enough to stand in front of Louis, giving him a chance in knocking him out. Johnson's speed and superior footwork makes the difference here and with his stamina advantage and defense skills he can handle Louis punches for 15 rounds. Johnson would block Louis punches in the air, running around him.
Johnson 15UD
In a 15 round fight Louis wins. He was a great all around fighter, he has speed and power, he has the record for the longest reign as champion when there was only one champion in each of 8 divisions and the most title defenses.
Joe Louis would give the bigger Jack Johnson the beating of his life.
Joe Louis, all day. He's got quicker hands and an accurate and more powerful punch. He's tougher and had more stamina. I mean, this guy could go 30 rounds in a night.
Jackson was more of a defensive style fighter while Joe Louis could do it all. He too could parry a blow, catch it in mid air or slip the punch, but he was a technical wizard at measuring and pulling the trigger on very accurate deadly combinations. I see Louis by at least a 15 round UD
Jackson!? Where!!??
.
I'd kick both theirasses. Just sayin.
Louis would knock Johnson out.
