Hello Matt! This would have been a dynamite fight while it lasted. Joe Frazier was my first favorite fighter and I absolutely loved it when he gave Ali his first career defeat as I wanted to emulate his great left hook and Philly toughness. Joe Frazier was what you would call a man's man not giving a quarter and not taking one either. Earnie Shavers is regarded by many as the hardest punching heavyweight of all time and he certainly does make a good argument. I wil never forget how he dispatched of Ken Norton in just 1 round. His main issue was his stamina and at times his chin as he was knocked out in 1 round by Jerry Quarry always stands out for me. H came close to winning titles from Holmes and Ali but just couldn't quite get there despit the great punching power. These two guys would have been like two tanks coming at each other and while it lasted it would have been a lot of fun to see. I believe that Shavers lands well early but that Frazier perserveres and comes back firing those big left hooks and sends Shavers down for the count.
Joe Frazier WKO5
Matt, solid question! Joe Frazier is one of the all-time great heavyweights, among other things the three fight series with Ali and fighting George Foreman, Jerry Quarry, Buster Mathis, and Oscar Bonavena, among others. Earnie Shavers was a tremendous puncher who kayoes Ken Norton and Jimmy Ellis, and put a scare or two into both Ali and Holmes before losing in two title fights.Prime vs Prime, Joe is to much for Earnie, and though Earnie may floor Joe early, once Joe got smoking, the fight is a wrap.Joe kayoes Earnie in four rounds.
Both are big punchers but Joe are busier with better head movement and better stamina and better chin. Earnie put up a good fight for 9 rounds then run out of steam. Joe Frazier by 10th round TKO.
