People pay to see fights, and as long as they sell tickets it does not matter who is in the ring.
Anderson Silva is old at 38 [UFC fighters usually start going downhill at 30], it was a matter of time before this happened.
I think Rousey can carry some of the sport with her trash talk and disrespect [kind of like the Mayweather of UFC].
Other superstars will rise.
This is like when Muhammad Ali started loosing because of age; welterweights carried the sport for some years. Rousay will carry the sport till a Mike Tyson appears.
Was the UFC finished after Mark Coleman or Randy Couture? Frank Shamrock? Pat Miletich? Royce Gracie?
Of course not.
Things change. Some belt holders get defeated or retire.
There are plenty of excellent newcomers--many mentioned by others here--some with the potential to be great. And there are others today, fighting in local and regional promotions, who you won't even hear of for several years.
So I wouldn't worry about a lack of talent or a drop-off in interest or attendance.
Hope that helps.
UFC is as strong as ever, but they took a hit with GSP, and Silva taking off a while. GSP was by far their biggest sell. They still got huge draws Jones, Cain,Belfort, Weidman, JDS,Condit, Hendricks, Pettis, Aldo, Rousey and tons of veterans who bring big draws, and they just signed 115 lb. women.
the UFC F'd up when they tried to make dana the "star" and not promote the fighters now with Anderson injured and retiring GSP retired and all the other big stars well past thier prime or retired there is no one marketable left and I can't see anyone paying the climbing ppv prices for fighters that just aren't worth it.
You sir are a dumb@ss. Jon Jones is up there with Silva for biggest star and he's still a young kid...you also have Cain, Sonnen, Junior Dos Santos etc....shuttup dumb@ss
Are you nuts? Cain, JDS, Jon Jones, Jose Aldo, Etc...Silva wasn't everything.
After Anderson Silva's loss to Chris Weidman the UFC now has no stars, except MAYBE Rousey. The UFC is known to doctor their PPV buy information and also the biggest MMA forum sherdog.com has seen steadily decreasing traffic over the past year.
UFC is finished.
