You should ask Sonny, from "The Bronx Tale", that question. People will fear a bully, but an honest hard working, law abiding individual who treats other the way he would like to be treated, is respected and for the most part admired by his peers. People who are loud and law breaking are looked down upon as ignorant, uneducated morons. People will always welcome a well mannered individual, because they display intelligence and maturity, as well as class. The feared do not have anywhere positive to expand their horizons, because they are soon to be forgotten, void of a legacy.

I think they are the same thing, you respect what you fear, but there are no negative connotations attached to respect, so I would go with respect.
I'll put it this way. Tyson was feared, but Ali was and is still respected to this day. So which do you think is better? ;)
well fear is a dead end street but respect is forever most of the time. when people are scared of you You're only going to create problems for yourself, 1. Every one is not going to fear you and you are going to eventually make yourself look stupid. 2. when people are Scared of you you are going to eventually get killed. Someone who is scared will kill you 30 times faster than someone who is not scared of you. lol
