Is Kovalev the next hypejob?

He's an exciting fighter and last night I was impressed but i do think the three letter network and a number of Boxing fans have crowned him a little premature. I wouldn't necessarily call him a "hype-job" because he doesn't have a significant number of bouts under his belt so he's still developing in some respects but I do think the Kovalev hoopla is a little premature.

The Adonis Stevenson situation only fueled the fire in my opinion. In Boxing, when a fighter is avoided, for whatever reason, it tends to create this mystique he's beating avoided because fighters are afraid of him when in some cases its more of a risk versus reward type of thing.

Sergey Kovalev really reminds me of a 2007-2008 version of Kelly Pavlik. A methodical, come-foward, flat foot type of fighter. I think he beats a lot of Light Heavyweights, maybe even Stevenson, but he has been hyped up just a tad bit.

How can you not make a question about Stevenson being a hype job seeing as he was KOed by Darnell Boone and avoided the man you are calling a hype job?

Kovalev is a beast, Adonis is a bltch, a rapist, an ex pimp, a woman beater and disgrace to all men.

Why you gotta take shots at Matthysse? If his eye doesn't close he'd have beat Garcia for sure IMO.

Kovalev hasn't fought anyone good yet. He's far and away one of the best three fighters at light-heavyweight though, so I slightly agree that people are overrating him but at the same time he does deserve some hype.

It's f*cking stupid to say he'd beat a prime RJJ, that's just ignorant nonsense. RJJ would school Kovalev, it would be uncompetitive and easy.

Kovalev isn't avoided either. Adonis avoided him, yes, but that doesn't mean everyone is avoiding him.

Paul Williams wasn't a hypejob. He beat every welterweight he fought including plaster-handed Margarito, the same Margarito who kayod Cotto [not the same as plasterless Margarito].

Paul Williams lost against the prime middleweight king.

Sugar Ray Robinson lost to Joey Maxim in lightheavyweight, does that mean Robinson was a hypejob?

No.

That means Robinson was the greatest welterweight ever, possibly the greatest middleweight ever but not the best lightheavyweight of his time.

Kovalev has an extensive amateur background so i don't think he's a hypejob.

Matthysse couldn't ko glass chinned senior citizen Zab Judah yet people bought into the GOLDEN BOY hype.

Kovalev isn't promoted by Golden Boy so i don't think he's hype.

If your'e saying Kovalev can beat Jones Jr., your'e def. overrating him, but he is the # 1 Light Heavyweight, in the world, currently.

Not necessarily, but many have been touted as unbeatable till they fought real competition. Mac Foster was 21-0 with 21 KO's till he met Jerry Quarry and was Ko'd. We'll see soon enough.

Not a hype job in my opinion. Get him in with Stevenson and Hopkins and let's see how he does.

The boxing world loves to hype up one dimensional power punchers.

Cmon son the kid has talent but don't make him another Matthysse again.

I saw a question that asked Kovalev vs Jones Jr (in prime) and most picked Kovalev by KO like wtf?

I know he's avoided, but so was Paul Williams and he got KTFO by Martinez. Not every avoided fighter is as hyped up as people think they are.
