Is Deontay Wilder in a 'no win' situation..?

Hi Eddie, I think you have just about summed it up. Audley Harrison is a live opponent, his main problem is laziness and freezing on big fights. I agree Wilder doesn't have a lot to win, if Harrison wins or even makes a competitive fight Wilder will lose credibility. Even if Wilder knocks Harrison out with one punch there will be "well, we said he was a bum".......

On the other hand Wilder's people probably see Harrison as a good opponent, past his best but a former Olympic champion, former Domestic and European title holder and world title challenger. He could provide Wilder with a learning experience and a stepping stone.

For Harrison this is the last chance saloon and he could surprise us.

Id like to believe Harrison could do something here but I cant see it,he has a problem with power punchers,Haye and Price are big hitters and they KO'D him easy,Wilder is a big hitter too and if he lands early it will be over fast,Harrisons only chance is to keep him at distance for 4 or 5 rounds and then try and rock him with a few shots. Wilder doesnt have much boxing ability and he has a questionable chin so I would not rule out Harrison but to have any chance he really needs to perform at his absolute best.

- Well it would be the first recognizable "name" on his resume, albeit, a fighter well over the hill (who was never on an elite level to begin with).

- He'll get some UK exposure fighting in Sheffield on a Khan card

those are really the only positives I can find in this fight. Wilder definitely has more to lose than gain fighting Audley, who as Doc pointed out, is still an awkward opponent for any fighter if he's determined. I still got Wilder by KO before 6 though.

hello mate i think you have got it spot on it seems like a strange fight in many ways harrison has been embarrassed in all of his big fights so wilder won't get any credit for beating auderly but harrison is still an awkward opponent to fight who at 6'5 and a southpaw could make it a long night for wilder if he doesn't freeze .i think it will help auderly that it's not the main event and amir khan will get most of the media attention ,

So.. Deontay Wilder clashes with Audley Harrison at the end of the month... Let's consider the possible outcomes:

1) Wilder wins via KO - The detractors will state it was just another bum - A burnt out, unmotivated, boxer that could never cut it at the highest level.

2) Wilder wins via decision - How did Harrison last the distance? What would a top ten guy do?

3) Wilder registers his first defeat via points decision: The snipers will be out in force.

4) Wilder gets KO'd - All but a public lynching will be the result here...

So on to the question: What does Wilder have to gain having this fight?

Regardless of what the public conception of Harrison is... He is still a dangerous fighter. He battered three men in one night recently in Prize fighter - He looked in shape, performed awesomely, and looked like a man on a mission...

A win over Wilder will catapult Harrison back into the big time... He knows this.

Should Wilder really be fighting a guy in the last chance saloon???

Opinions Gentlemen please...
