I have no hate for the guy
Algieri is a very quick and intelligent fighter. As others have said, he is not a household name, but he has a huge following in New York. He was a champion kickboxer before he switched to boxing, so he isn't some schmo who walked in off the street to land a Pacquiao fight.
Should he be fighting Pacquiao? That is a legitimate question. There are at least 10 guys at 147 who deserve a shot at Pacquiao more than Algieri, but this will be his highest payday by far so he would be a fool to pass it up. If he loses, well, he is supposed to lose. If he wins, it will be a HUGE upset and catapult him into the limelight.
I for one will not be purchasing the fight but not because I think Algieri is not good, but because Pacquiao should be fighting the best in his division.
Algieri won against Provodnikov who gave Timothy Bradley, the best Welterweight not named Pacquiao or Mayweather, all he can handle and in fact barely survive with the win. If you can see that as a hype job, I am sure you can see a lot more fighters fighting the best in the business as a hype job.
Provo was considered as the next opponent of Manny Pacquiao before his loss to Algieri who displayed vast knowledge of tactical style, the style most hard core fans favored more, lol.
Algieri might be unknown to casual fans but his undefeated record and title speaks volume unless you learned how to discredit all opponent of Manny Pacquiao. Some similar questions were being posted not to say Algieri is a bum but more in preparation to bash Pacquiao after the fight whatever the result is. Don't even think that it is a "walk in the ball park" for Manny because that is what people think when he fought Provodnikov and I don't have to tell you the result.
Just consider one contributor discrediting Algieri as an opponent of Manny but contradict himself after saying Algieri will be on the list of the coveted P4P ranking in three years. I am not to say who he is.
He's undefeated who beats a hard hitter in Provo. How the fock he's a hype job? Not to mention that he's too tall as compared to Pac.
If he is. Then that shows how overrated and hype provodnikov is. I had Chris outboxing the **** out of him with a score of 115-111. After round 2 Ruslan did nothing and look for one shot every once in awhile.
A 5'11'' welterweight who outboxed Provodkinov is a hypejob?
Really?
You don't know **** about boxing
Obviously, yes. He's virtually unknown til he beat Provodnikov. Even then, he's still quite unheard of, especially to casual boxing fans, so Bob has to market him vigorously.
so beating provo is hype, his 5'11, 4" height advantage is hype, arum aint good in hype jobs, if there was, it was schaeffer....
algieri came out of the picture bc he beat provo and now in title fight against pac.... unknown but aint no hype job...
lowrisk I might say, maybe arums damage control type of response to pacs new focus, his new professional basketball team kia motors
No. Provodnikov just wasn't that good.
I don't see why people were so high on him. He can't even throw a body shot.
I just feel like this algieri hype is set up by arum. Like after one fight he gets to fight paquiao? What do y'all think
