When i first watched the fight live I was pretty buzzed and was in a loud bar, but I thought Alvarez won pretty convincingly. A couple days later i decided to watch the fight more closely and sober and I gotta say it was close. I scored it 7 rounds to 5 for Trout, but given that Canelo gets an extra point for the knockdown I had it a draw. I may watch it again because the fight was that good.
I was impressed with Canelo. I do think he should have pressed the action a bit more but the shots he did land were crisp and it was clear that Canelo had the power advantage, he touched Trout with that right uppercut inside several times in the fight. Trout was active but he was missing a lot and he wouldnt throw his left hand.
This fight could have easily gone the other way, and like everyone else i think the 118-109 score is ridiculous. And I agree, stylistically I think Trout would be a harder match for Floyd than Canelo but I can see both giving him problems.
Me too, I just watched it an hour ago and I had it 114-113 for Trout at the end of the 12th and the punch totals also suggested Trout won, not withstanding the fact that he was hunting Alvarez down for many of the rounds and outworked him. The official scoring was ridiculous and Trout should be given a rematch in New Mexico or somewhere where the scoring is going to be fair. Although as my scorecard suggests, I don't feel the outcome was some sort of massive injustice as my scoring would have been reversed if Canelo caused me to give him the final round instead of Trout so I am not claiming the result was a farce but 118-109? I mean, Christodulu must have been asleep because how the hell did he arrive at that conclusion? That is not an accurate reflection of what went down in Texas on Saturday night and it's this sort of nonsense that is killing the sport. In my view.
Edit: @Normen Bates - It shows that you watched it without sound but if you had sound you would have learned or been reminded of the fact that the WBC have an open scoring system now and they inform the head trainers' of the official scores after round 4 and then round 8 so the reason that Trout looked defeated at the end of the final bell is because he knew that after 8 rounds some idiot had scored it 81-70 in favour of Alvarez and that the other two cards also had Alvarez ahead. Coupled with his failure to knock Alvarez down between the 8th and the 12th it was certain that he'd lost the fight. If not for this nonsensical open scoring system, the 12th round would have been explosive and both fighters would have been nervously awaiting the decision of the judges
I scored it 114 - 113 in favour of Trout. I was also generous to Alvarez in a lot of tight rounds.
I was very impressed with Canelo's speed... That really caught my eye.
I think everybody knew that it would take something special to get a decision against Alvarez in Texas, but then again, Trout put up an excellent performance.
Sure, he got knocked down.... But got right back up again and dominated the round.... That's class!
I'm not going to argue too much about the verdict.. It was very close.. I thought Trout edged it, but a draw would have been acceptable to me too....
What I cannot accept... Is the ridiculous scoring put in by the judges! This was all but criminal!
These guys have to understand, that a lot of punters around the world have bet on the outcome of this fight.. Their money was robbed from them.
Did one dude score it 117 - 110?? How in God's name could anybody produce a score cards with that shi*e on it? These guys are either taking a hit of a bong pipe before they start scoring, or are as corrupt as the mafia.... Either way, they should be banished from boxing.
I watched the fight Sunday afternoon without any sound and I ended up having it Seven to Five for Saul Alvarez but I can't argue with the notion that Trout might have one because it was close. You're obviously going to have a number of "Canelo" supporters like "hey look he was as good as we said he was", but I think you can make a strong argument for either man.
I had it seven to five so with the knockdown Saul Alvarez won by roughly three points on my scorecard. The biggest difference was the knockdown and without it You can raise a legitimate argument for either man as the winner.
I gave the last two rounds to Saul Alvarez because they were extremely close and I thought it was "Canelo" who was landing the harder more meaningful shots. Austin Trout didn't look bad but I felt like late in the fight he was throwing a lot of "arm-punches" and he wasn't asserting himself.
Another thing that weighed heavily was the fact that after the final bell if you notice carefully "Canelo" Alvarez instantly raised his hand and Trout instantly lowed his head and shrugged to his corner, I just didn't like the body language, he acted like he knew he'd lost.
@OneDrop if he knew the scoring then thats all the more incentive to pick it up and fight harder which he didn't. Not to mention he took his loss like a man with no complains.
I thought the fight was close and could of gone either way, the knock down is why I gave Alvaraz the edge by one point but I could see it going the other way the same. The judge that scored almost every round for Alvareaz should have to explain how they saw the match that way because they were watching a different fight than I did!
You were off.
Trout was definitely the busy fighter but he wasn't landing any punches.
Canelo landed 29% of his punches, Trout landed 20%.
14% tie in jabs and Canelo landing 43% power punching to Trout's 27%
Stats don't lie.
Canelo won.
HERES THE TRUTH, CANELO ALVAREZ DID WIN A CLOSE FIGHT,NOTHING LIKE THE JUDGES SCORED IT,BUT YES CANELO LOOKED VERY TIRED AND NOT HIMSELF,ITS CALLED FIGHTING THE BEST,AS TROUT IS.HOWEVER HE PULLED OFF A SLIGHT VICTORY,BUT IF HE WANTS CHICKEN LITTLE MAYWEATHER HE NEEDS ALOT MORE TRAINING AND PREPARATION,CHICKEN LITTLE IS A WORLD CLASS CHAMP HES JUST CHICKEN,WRONG SPORT FOR THAT FLOYD!!
I was disappointed also with canelo...He beat trout like there is no other...I dont think trout won a single round...hahahaha
All the people who are saying canelo lost are african american semi fans.
i recorded the fight and watched it last night and i thought trout was in control for most of the fight he outworked alverez and saul couldn't figure out the southpaw stance . even when canelo floored trout he never followed up and went for the KO .
for me canelo showed much better defence than i thought he had but he needs to work at a higher rate and throw more shots , slipping shots only works if you counter back and land your own punch but canelo slipped punches but he didn't counter .
i think floyd would handle canelo with out much trouble and trout would be a harder fight for floyd .
Eres pendejo o te haces?
then you are mistaken my friend.
Alvarez won fair and square.
