How to fight a bigger man?

Harry Greb fought much bigger guys than he was and they had no chance against him. He was a middleweight who fought heavyweights. He was just much faster than they were and he was much more flexible. Speed is the best weapon that smaller fighters have against bigger opponents. My trainer always said that it doesn't matter if you have more muscles or more fat, with every 10 pounds more weight you slow down 10%, because you become more inflexible with all those big muscles or fat on your body. It's like imaging someone is putting heavy bags on your arms, legs and a heavy bag on your back. By the way, just watch the movies of Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. Those martial arts asian guys are also small and fight against much bigger opponents and they win, because of their flexibility and speed advantage.

Audley Harrison - knocked flat by just about every opponent. He is huge.

Confidence is the issue. I have fought bigger guys and never been humiliated. You have to have faith in your power of punch. Tyson often was shorter than his opponents - yet he would crouch down even shorter and spring up like a "jack in the box" landing his powerful knock-out punch.

Dont forget the big guy will be wondering how to handle a smaller guy - hitting downwards is the hardest way to throw a punch. You lose power. You can then use an OVERHAND right or left and wack him on the chin. Practice for this when sparring.

There's a reason there are weight classes.

In the confines of boxing, you can fight against a bigger opponent by sticking and moving. You have to have good footwork, and be elusive. You're goal is to wear out your opponent, by making him gas out. You want to frustrate him. Since you are smaller, you could fight out of a low crouch too.

In a normal fight, you could grapple with your opponent. If you know grappling, and he doesn't, then you have a huge advantage. You can pin him or apply a choke.

Your punches will still hurt a bigger man. You're not going to have the same power a heavyweight would have though.

Big guys know that to wear down a small guy they just have to keep walking forward until the small guy gasses out.

Try to hit hard [to let him know you can hurt him] so he won't keep running at you, and dance away from his punches which can drain you allot.

If you're a very accurate hard hitter you can do like Joe Louis.

Joe Louis weighed about 200lbs, he kayod 1 guy who was like 6'6'' and weighed 270lbs of muscle [not fat], i believe that was Carnera who was a former universally recognized world champion.

He also beat another guy who was almost as big and weighed 250lbs of MUSCLE [not fat], than he beat buddy baer who was like 230lbs but was a bit fat.

He used the same technique against them but it was because Louis was a very correct, sharp shooting power-puncher, very few could do this. When Tyson fought bit men he missed allot thus occasionally gassed-out and got knocked out.

If you throw at a big guy a hard punch make sure it hits!

Let's face reality. Size really does matter - but it's not everything. You may not be bigger than your opponent, but you may be faster, smarter, or more savvy than him. Take advantage wherever you can. Brains are much more important than brute strength.

Unlike facing an adversary who's equal in size, fighting a bigger person has certain challenges, and following these steps make help you emerge victorious - or at least survive in one piece!

please pick as best answer if you like, thanks guys

Just give a lot practice time on defence...and bob and weave and counter like mike tyson... Watch manny pacquiao and mike tyson videos and learn some techniques from em'... Imma short fighter too so i fight like manny pacquiao and always win...

Bigger guys have bigger muscles. Hit him where he doesn't have muscles (like a bony fragile face). Focus everything on a punch that shows no body language, all speed, like an arm punch. Don't move your body like a whip, whipping motions show a bit of body language. Move your arm like an explosion. Explosions show no body language.

Hit him in the back while he's walking away??? And run like a B?

I am a small boxer and I am always wonderin if i could take out a really big guy i fight at 147lbs..whenever i come to think of me fighting someone a lot bigger i always imagine that my shots wouldnt hurt him at all..i would have to hit upwords so my punches wouldnt have a lot of power..so is there a way ta take out a much more bigger man?
