How sad is this.....?

It's a ******* joke. It's an absolute ******* joke and a disgrace to the sport that I love so much. It's this reason and scenerios like it that parents don't want their children boxing. Which in turns hurts the sport of boxing. To the kid that said you shouldn't take away another mans means to survive I normally would agree with you if his means to survive didn't involve him probably getting beaten into an early grave. As a human being with morals, we should feel obligated to save a fighter like Holyfield from HIMSELF, because he clearly can't. The reason many of these boxers look and sound damn near retarded at the age of 50, is because guys like him, Ali, Taylor, Etc. can keep fighting and taking blows repeatedly as long as there is money to be made. Quite frankly I am sick of it. We need a damn governing body over all of boxing with a commissioner like every other REAL sport. A commissioner who will look at Holyfield and guys like him and say, NO. You are too old, and too hurt to continue in this sport. This isn't basketball, baseball, or soccer. This isn't a patty cake club here .This is a sport where you get paid tons of money to beat the living **** out of another human being. It is already barbaric in the minds of most viewers and now you are telling viewers to buy a fight of a 51 year old man? It's an absolute joke that this is still going on. Then we wonder why boxing is dying. SAVE OUR SPORT. SAVE OUR LEGENDS. SAVE THEM FROM THEMSELVES!

Holyfield is 50, 51 later this year, he should have retired 10 years ago at the latest, I feel the second Lewis fight would have been a good time to bow out.

I think Holyfield will only stop when he HAS to, sadly I think death or serious injury is the only thing that will stop him climbing into the ring time and time again. I have said for years now that the boxing authorities should revoke his boxing license for his own safety, if not I can see him fighting until he is 70. Holyfield said in the past he is on a mission from God to become heavyweight champion again and will only retire when that happens. Hmmmmm....................

Its sad to see such a boxing legend fight against men who wouldn't have touched him in his prime and lets face it $250k is nothing compared to the purses he commanded in his prime. I guess he needs it for the alimony but I'm sure he could do something less dangerous ie commentary, after dinner speaking.

Since you have a high enough horse to tell another man he shouldn't make money the only way he can, why dont you sell all of your assets and donate the proceeds to Holyfield? Then after pledging 20% of your salary to him for the rest of his natural life, start raising funds from others and wire him cash every month. If that's not something you're willing to do stay the hell out of another man's wallet and worry about your own.

I have no idea what Tyson stated in his book, frankly don't give a darn, but it's easy to confront financial obligations when you still have marketability.

Q1- Nothing sad about it at all, you do what you have to do in life. Why should a 75 year old man be able to work at Wal-Mart without shame while a 50 year old fighter cant?

Q2- If he can still lie to himself every time he looks into a mirror and the HW division remains as poor as it is, then by all means earn it while you can.

it's a sad state that's for sure mate , who wants to see a former great like evander get beat up by some fighter that wouldn't be good enough to use as a sparring partner when younger.

i'm sure holyfield could do well for himself doing after dinner speaking in the uk and ireland , and it would be a lot safer for him.

Will everyone please stop saying before he gets killed when was the last time a old fighter got hurt or killed exactly so please just stop it.250.000.00 to fight a guy who only has 15 fights and just got by Oliver McCall I don't see a problem . In fact I see Holyfield winning that fight.Evander Holyfield was one of the best in shape fighters in history.

The great Evander Holyfield pimping himself out for $250k....

The real deal has a legacy to be proud of.... Not many will reach the heights that he did.

All them fights, a life of sacrifice, a sport that became an obsession.... All for what??

Somewhere along the line, Holyfield will have to take his gloves off for the last time...

He will still be in a financial pit... The wolves won't just stop knocking at his door because he retired..

Holyfield needs to confront his financial obligations - Take a leaf out of Mike Tyson's book.

I hope Holyfield gets sense, and stops these ridiculous money inspired fights... He's going to get hurt. This is the HW division we are talking about here.. One blow to the head could result in a wheelchair or worse... That's the facts of the case...

Should Holyfield keep on fighting ?? Why? Why not?
