So far, it doesn't seem to be a popular fight with everyone other than the diehard Floyd fans. However when Golden Boy start marketing the fight, and push Maidana up the Ring Magazine rankings just to make him seem like a better opponent for Floyd than he is, I think the casual fans will be conned into thinking this is a good fight.
Also if they get a very good undercard, that will boost the PPV buys.
More than Mayweather versus Robert Guerrero but not quite as much as if Floyd was fighting Manny Pacquiao.
It shouldn't sell well at all!!! But, then again... people shouldn't have voted for Maidana over Khan in the first place, so who knows???
Maidana has the same chance as beating Floyd as I have, because mathematically speaking zero is zero! Khan would have made for a compelling, competitive, and incredible fight. However, people chose Maidana. I like Maidana too, but his flat-footed, slow, plodding, in fighting, pure "puncher" style is tailor made for an easy Mayweather payday. This fight will be every bit as boring and lop-sided as Mayweather vs. Canelo. Its essentially the same fight.
Khan's speed, volume punching, height, reach, and natural size advantages would have given Mayweather trouble. If you're going to play with Floyd, you've got to have speed... Khan has it! Maidana doesn't. But, people chose Maidana anyways, so maybe they're dumb enough to waste money on a fight, that is about as entertaining as watching grass grow, at least with grass... you don't have to pay $75 to watch it do the inevitable.
I wish we could've gotten Khan over Maidana!!! This Mayweather/Maidana fight is absolute garbage.
It will sell between 1.2 - 1.5 million ppv buys. It should be a great fight because they're both champions.
Chino is on the roll and perceived as very deserving opponent for Floyd especially coming off stirring wins over Jesus Soto Karass and Floyd wannbe Adrien Broner. I agree with you, I think the fight will fetch between 1 million and 1.5 million buys.
i don't think it will do very well myself , i just can't see it being anything but very one sided fight.
having said that i can imagine that the build up and 24/7 will play a lot on maidana beating broner showing him flooring broner and making it seem like a close fight
between maidana and khan, khan was the prefered opponent by voters winning the maywewther poll..
yet the khan fight hype wasnt doin good in the boxing circulation (the very reason why floyed picked maidana)... what makes you think the maidana fight will do better?

To be honest I couldn't give a ***. Who cares how rich Mayweather will get off this. I will still be watching boxing matches even if its banned and I have to stir shlt amongst hobos to see some fisticuffs.
Maidana is more well known than Robert Gurerro, and after Floyds win over Canelo he has probably gotten a lot of exposure, if it has a good undercard, like maybe Broner vs Khan I think the fight might be able to sell between 1 million - 1.5 million.
